According to mainstream Islamic doctrine (as I understand it, which probably isn't all that well 😛) Korans are only Korans if printed/written in Arabic. To translate it (no matter how faithfully) is to trample all over God's word.

So at best an English Koran is a means of convincing an English speaker to learn Arabic so that they can read a "real" one.

Not sure about that, but it may well be true. All Muslims I know, regardless of their origin are taught Arabic - or rather, they memorize the sounds and words in Arabic from the Qur'an, but half of them haven't got a clue what any of it means.

Some of them have read the Qur'an in their own language, but the prayers still remain in Arabic...so you could be right.

I do have to add that majority don't actually speak Arabic, but, like I said, only memorized bits from the Qur'an/

It's no different from the way cult leaders indoctrinate their members (I'm sure there's a penis joke in there somewhere). They don't actually believe the shit they spout but so long as the dumb people do they can get those people to blow themselves up rather than the likes of Bin Laden having to blow himself up.
