How reliable is Google Translate?

I use it from time to time, but it's been brought to my attention by native speakers that at least some of the languages aren't quite up to snuff.

It is exactly 73 reliables.

Sometimes, it spits out translations that are "better" than what most of hte native speakers can produce (grammatically correct, accent marks, etc.)

Other times, it makes silly translations that don't make much sense or are grammatically incorrect.

For example, in English, we have a saying from the space race: To the moon!

In Spanish? A la luna!

It makes no sense.

😆

Chinese-English translation is awful.
It accounts for about 90% of all Chinglish in High School.

French-English one also doesn't always work well - it has problems detecting proper tenses and sometimes the word order is all wrong.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that it's still the best out there....out of the free ones, that is.

Mhm. My mom is a native speaker of French and she often criticizes the results the French-English translator brings up.

Similarly I know an Italian girl who I've attempted to have conversations with using translate who told me to just stop and speak English with her because I was saying gibberish half the time.

it sometimes gets confused by adding to many words for different sentences in different languages

I like Bable fish.

You know it.

It's not perfect. My test: I use Google to translate this sentence from English to Bulgarian translation, the Netherlands and returned to England! Original: I am using Google Translate to translate this sentence from English to Bulgarian to Chinese to Dutch and then back to English! Still, not terrible compared to other translators. 🙂

I think it is pretty good myself.

The test:

English: The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.
French: La pluie tombe surtout en Espagne sur la plaine
Back to English: The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain

Google Translate whats the score?
