Vancoover Riot

It is also true there are more Canadian players on the Boston Bruins than the Canucks.

And yeah, I guess Canadians aren't at the top in a lot of other sports such as Football, but then again, we also aren't at the top for pursuing shameless wars against third world countries. Only dragged into them by our friendly neighbor to the south.

Anyhow, there would have been a riot whether the Canucks lost or not. But don't get me wrong, I don't know why people would want to rampage on their own city, and I don't know if tax payers will have to pay at all for the extra clean up services. At least hundreds of them volunteered to clean up.

feels like a lot of americans are trying to make themselves feel better about the state of their own country {no healthcare, illegal governments, no benefits, vilence, racism etc etc}.

Vancoover is in Canada...

Yeah, or, you know, not have weird local games at the Olympics.

Violence and racism are hardly America only qualities. I'm pretty sure those are present in all countries.

Nope, they're unique to the US.

america is far more racist and violent than canada. im thinking it gives most americans a certain inner satisfaction to see vancouver display the chaos it did at the stanley cup because people like have something to hate their betters with. {kinda like hating on cuba or scandanavia etc}

It is the worst sort of hypocrisy to embargo Cuba and starve them of trade. When we will gladly trade with China (and basically sell ourselves to them in the process), and the human rights abuses in china are a hundred times greater! The Cuban exiles... what a selfish bunch. And the communists only replaced an equally vicious dictatorship supported by the US. It is the worst.

the cuban revolution is actually one of the few where it is arguable that the revolution actually turned out better for the people who participated in it, especially for a violent one

I just cannot stand the individuals that said they were "ashamed of Vancouver." Not all residents of Vancouver participated in this riot. You cannot blame the "city" and you certainly cannot even blame all of the people in it. Rioters =/= The entirety of Vancouver.

Oh, 100%. If they were allowed free trade, I think they would be a totally developed nation by now.

Michael Moore convinced me that Cuba, simply having universal health care, means they are a prosperous and happy people who aren't being repressed in any way.

Viva la Revolucion!

makes sense, since the vancouver riots convinced a lot of people that it was the way vancouverites usually acted.

one of my favorite parts about the riots is that, afterwards, people on social media sites were outing those who they saw or had pictures of rioting. Apparently there was some backlash for some of them 🙂

likely. They probably would still have the issues with things like press freedom and what have you, but they could easily have a much stronger economy than they do.

the revolution was successful and didn't decay into violence and mayhem, I'm not convinced it produced a free and prosperous society. For as iconic as Che is today, he, uhhh, was crazy, to say the least. For instance, if the Russians had stationed missiles in Cuba, he was adamant about launching them at America.
