OK, so like I said, XI had more control. Nothing was said/implied/shown in Origins of Stryker giving XI the abilities on an enhanced level. He took Wraith's porting ability and gave it to XI, that's it.
The fact that we never see Wraith porting rapid fire means nothing. XI made it look better because he was so damn athletic and agile.

I choose Nightcrawler in order to get agility and fighting skills, Colossus because I want a character that can both have a high level of durability and at the same isn't going to get autopwned if meeting someone like Magneto. I choosed David, not because of his ability to induce illusions, but because he showed a level of telepathic resistance against Professor Xavier, which would also be important. Callistro was chosen not because of her speed, but because she can sense when Mutants are near and what level of power they operate on, which for a mutant hunter / killer would be vital in deciding what do to next.

As for needind a mutant with some telepathic resistance, not true. Take mine:

First and foremost, I have bone claw Logan with his healing factor and enhanced senses. Second, I have Mystique's shape shifting. Third, Kitty Pride's intangibility. Lastly, Callisto's speed and mutant locating powers. Top that off with an adamantium skeleton.
If I were to pursue Xavier, I would simply shape shift into someone he trusts, get in close, then claw his brain.
