How do you rate/compare it to Jango Fett's de-cap in the arena, too?

As I mentioned previously, that Thark was more of a bully than a villain so his demise didn't need to be a big deal.

I had to look up the Jango Fett decap scene on youtube. I like that better, actually. There's at least a kind of build up to it. Instead of them just jumping at each other and one of them getting immediately effed up. And yeah, he may have been more of a bully, but he was still hyped up as a bit of a badass, cuz he defeated Tars Tarkas. All I'm saying is I want more out of my battles... build up the tension a bit more. Plus the movie didn't really have a good one-on-one fight like that. Could have been really cool, but it was a missed opportunity, I think..

And I still think the Disney music is bland and uninteresting (however there was some nice softer piano or keyboard work once or twice that was kind of nice and gave the film a little more of a signature sound. Should have been used more, I think). Disney is Lame with a capital 'L'.

And where the hell is Tars Tarkas' forehead?? It would seem that the Thark congitive capacities would suffer. But I suppose it makes sense since they are a kind of barbaric species. 😆

I don't know by that point in time I think they pretty much had shown that John Carter was above a Thark's ability to defeat single handily.

He had killed mountains of the savage Tharks, and he had killed two great apes which was obviously supposed to be a huge feat to do.

In some ways I think if that Thark had given JC a good fight I would have thought it was stupid. Like I said with everything that had happened before hand I think it was shown no one person on barsoom was close to a match for John Carter unless they had 9th Ring/Ray?(I can't remember which one they used lol) technology, or if it was Woola 😛

Yeah, I kind of thought of that, too.. but I dunno...

In the book he comes across as a bit more vulnerable. He's not impervious and for a character to be interesting, he shouldn't be. Besides there's got to be some advantage to having 4 arms as opposed to 2. lol

Speaking of that, how come he wasn't sending the red people flying with his strikes yet was demolishing legions of tharks. At first I thought the red people were just tougher, but that was disproved at the end.

Haha I hear you and once again I haven't read the books but going from the movie I think by that point in time any one person minus that crazy 9 Ray/Ring tech giving JC a fight would have come off stupid.

And the Thark's did show their superiority to the Red Men in the final fight. They were making hamburger out of them in close range.

Hamburger... mmm. You're causing me to Hunger. I think I'll go play some Games.. lol 😛

I'll be honest: I think I'm more than a little disappointed in this John Carter adaptation. In some ways it played better on the second viewing, but in others it didn't. I think my final rating will be:

Book: 8/10 (4.5/5)
Film: 6/10 (3/5)

I'm gonna split the blame between Andrew Stanton and Disney. Andrew Stanton incorporated some bad Sci-Fi cliches that weren't even in the book and Disney watered down the intensity and thrilling nature of it. 👇

Haha I'm a bit hungry myself.

I would probably give the movie a 7-8/10. I really enjoyed the world of Barsoom and the characters in it and the story. The effects were good, and I think it was pretty balanced.

Of course I haven't read the book so perhaps if I had my liking of the film would be lessened due to the reasons PL has stated.

I just read on MSN that Warner Bros is in production of a Tarzan movie!

Link or it didn't happen.. 😐

Well I'm kinda in two minds about Warner Bros being attached to it.

Go to the MSN site (like yer logging into hotmail)...there's a small article on some white South African body builder dressed up as Tarzan keen to audition for the upcoming role.

I can't find it on MSN, but I did find these...

Screenrant

Deadline

You've found more info than I did. The article I read was more on the body builder himself than the proposed Tarzan movie...

I guess I should also point out what I didn't like about the movie,

Mostly it had to do with the Thanes and mostly how the Thanes handled John Carter. It didn't make sense. It could be argued that in the beginning they were trying to study him and get a gauge on what he could do.

But afterwards and towards the end when they decided just killing people was ok, I saw so many instances where they could have killed him, and more importantly I don't see how JC could have stopped them, especially on Earth.

Spoiler:
When he teleported JC off of Barsoom, why didn't he just stick him with a knife then and there. Also there is no way JC could have kept the Thanes from infiltrating his personal life on Earth with their shapeshifting abilities.

Those kind of took me out of the movie a bit because they just didn't add up to me.

That would probably be the biggest thing, there were some other smaller things wrapped in. Some scenes dig drag a bit.

But the good far outweighed the bad for me.

Thanes?

i thought it was Fern?

but i looked it up and its actually Thern.

Yeah you're right I don't know why I put Thanes, maybe I just think it sounds cooler 😛

But the rest of my post was right 😛

This movie was pretty cool. John Carter can sure stand among the aliens.

There is a lot of excitement and I'd say Disney came through.

I liked some of the ships they had in the movie.

I got the impression the Thern's shapeshifting ability was only on Barsoom, closer to the source of the 9th Ray...whereas on Earth they would've be stuck in one body, one disguise only.
This was how John Carter knew he was being constantly followed by the same people.

I thought at the mining scene we see the guy following him switch from one form to another.

My mind is a bit hazy on that though so it could be the case the Therns can only hold one form on Earth but I don't know if that's right or logical considering it's just technology and if it works on Earth at all it should still work the same as it did on Barsoom. It could also be the case that they could not have use the full power away from the power source if there was a power source.

It still just seems off to me.

I convinced a friend of mine in the office to see it - I work at a TV production company, with lots of producers and interactive computer games designers here. He thought it was one of the best epics he had ever seen, and now wants to dive into the books.

Lots of articles the previous two weeks harping about the U.S. box office failure, but it continues to roll well overseas. It's now at $234 million worldwide after three weekends, holding steady overseas even with The Hunger Games huge opening weekend. With little else opening between now and the Avengers on May 4 (except for Wrath Of The Titans) it's on course towards respectability, at least.
So enough with placing it on the biggest flops of all time list; that's just the breakneck internet story age we live in, where people don't wait until all the facts are in.

Maybe it's just an anti-Disney thing...?
Just the contradiction of everybody enjoying this movie, seeing it several times as opposed to the media having a field day to how much Disney has bombed with Carter.
