Obama on Debt Crisis

As I understand this, this deal is supposed to reduce the deficit by $2T in 10 years. Since we're, what--$14T in debt, this plan brings us out of debt in...70 years? 2081??

What's the interest rate on this, and how do I get in?

Actually, since the bill (for the moment) doesn't renew federal unemployment for 2012, does nothing for jobs, raises no additional revenue and will cost close to 2 million jobs in the next year, expect either the debt to grow or worse. The combination of no jobs, no social mobility, stagnant wages, broke cities, and only one person at homeland security assigned to domestic terrorism is going to make things interesting, and not in a good way.

Oh it's gonna get worse. No unemployment starting in January, no LEAP, no money for police departments or social services beyond the very basics. Things are gonna get very interesting when desperate people reject the tea party bullshit and start going against the grain while even more desperate people turn to the streets with pipes, bottles, chains, and guns.

so very true.

You can't blame him for the crisis but you can blame him for being a pussy and therefore being complicit in the hostage taking that the national socialists in the tea party are responsible for. I hope he get primaried by someone with a spine and hope against hope and probability that a Democratic Socialist wins the next presidential election and that at the very least, the tea party is swept out of government.

this is a video EVERYBODY at this site should watch.it documents how Obama has not only continued and expanded Bush's policys,he has accelerated them.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAaQNACwaLw

I did not think it was possible to have a president worse than Bush, but Obama is.Should have known better though,go back to 1980 and every president that has gotten in has been worse and more corrupt than the previous one. From here on out, thats the way it will be as long as the american people lay on their behinds and let the politicians keep stripping away our freedoms and liberties.

Obama has lied about everything he said he would do once he got into office. His campaine motto is such a joke.we are change.Yeah thats why he brought in many of Clintons cronies to serve in his administration, the same ones the american people voted out of office. And making HELLARY Clinton secretary of state and keeping on Bush's appointee, the corrupt Robert Gates as defense secretary?Yeah thats real change alright.

Obama is so nauseating.Bush was so transparent you knew what you were getting.Obama has people fooled though he is such a slick talker and peopole warm up to him because of his personality.Biggest fraud of a president ever.

He's also black. Any other criticisms you can make of the man are redundant.

Obama save us!

Yes Obama. Nice work on that pussified "deal" with the GOP. I love nothing more than a market crash on a thursday. The government should mint 20 trillion in precious metal coins, deposit them in the treasury, use it to pay off all debts and extend unemployment, infrastructure, and hiring programs and just tell congress to go **** themselves.

Bernie Sanders for President.

Obama: Hope to change from a Democrat to Republican. Great civilaztions rise and fall throughout history. I wouldn't be surprise if this nation fell because of economic problems and political discord rather than an invasion of any kind.

I had a conversation about this debt committee and why I think calling it a "super congress" is just plain wrong.

Bob:
The lesson to be learned is...get elected, go to D.C., do whatever you want. I have already emailed my congressmen about this "super congress" bull crap. Have you?
dadudemon:
This is a recommendation committee. There's literally tons of recommendation committees. This is not even close to being a supercongress.[in fact, I believe we currently have 22 permanent committees]
Bob:
It's a committee that gets to agree on legislation, then send that proposed legislation to congress for a simple Up or Down vote. Therein taking debate out of the question on the congressional floor. It is clearly unconstitutional when all representatives do not get an equal opportunity to debate proposed legislation that may affect their constituents. Do you really want a hand-picked "committee" of 12 individuals making laws that could affect you without your Rep being able to debate it on the floor first?

dadudemon:
That's exactly why it cannot be called a super-congress. Sure, I may not agree with the decision (obviously 😄) but it literally is not a super congress. Additionally, we have had "hand-picked" government since the beginning. Those individuals that run for congressional seats are almost always hand-picked by their party to be their front-runner (primary). If you don't have the backing of your party, you pretty much don't stand a chance at winning the primary. That's how the system is setup to work. Additionally, the individuals in the justice department are all hand-picked by the executive branch. Lastly, all of our Supreme Court Justices are hand-picked by the contemporary president.

The only difference between this committee and any other committee is the lack of debate. That's it. It is functioning just like any other committee because many of those committees are also hand-picked (senate majority leaders, party whips, minority leader, president, external cabinet selections (the EPA choosing house or senate members, for example), and so forth (And so forth is the other stuff like being selected by a lobbyist for a cause…like a major corporation). They write their recommendations and then it goes to the floor for voting. That's how it has always worked. Like I said, the only minor difference is the lack of floor debate. That's almost completely processional than debilitating to the voting process because each house rep. or senator office can always release a justification to their constituents for their reasons on voting the way they did. Budget voting operates very similarly to legislation voting but there are a few minor differences. This new process is more like a hybrid between legislation voting and budget voting.

But let’s be real: no real budgeting change will be made unless we had a major change in the make-up of both the house and senate. It’s very hard to get rid of the old-ways when you have “old” representatives. We’d need a paradigm shift in both the ideals and content of our congress in order to see long-lasting and positive change.

Buy a savings bond from the government. That's honestly the interest rate. The interest rate sounds serious calculated from the trillions of debt, but it's not usually even keeping up with inflation or economic growth. Crunch the numbers sometime - what would you make overtime investing in a well-diversified mutual fund vs. investing in the government? My strategy would be to make sure the government (a) draws its fair share from the economy (ie. don't let the upper class suck it all up AHEM) and (b) makes sure the economy doesn't go down the drain, which is exactly what people have been labeling as irresponsible lately.

Because of the combined efforts of Bush AND Obama, expect that to happen that we fall to economic problems and political discord.we deserve it though, the american people let it happen.
