Battlestar Galactica has the best original score, and an awesome cover of All Along The Watchtower that makes the Hendrix and Dylan versions sound like crap.

There's some bias here, but I love what Murray Gold has done for years on Doctor Who. Being a big fan of classical music and movie soundtracks, he's surpassed nearly all of them in my mind to become one of my favorite writers of music period.

...that's a main theme, but even his incidental music is very spot-on.

It depends whether you mean soundtrack or score. Supernatural has some pretty decent tunes, Led Zep, BOC, etc. Lost had some good pieces of music too, which is now being rehashed for Fringe.

I'd agree that Lost has the best soundtrack of all time.

Another great one would be the soundtracks for Bruce Tim's cartoons.

For adapted soundtracks, I'd have to say Supernatural. I've been searching in their back-files for songs and bands, and have been compiling the list song by song anytime I have extra iTunes money.

But L O S T has the best original, anytime, anyplace, anywhere. That composer used the strings section so well, especially the cellos. I don't even have anything witty enough to compare it to.
