Total spite. With the Super Soldier Serum he doesn't get past Tommy Gunn. Without the serum he get's overwhelmed by a sudden bout of patriotism and forfeits to Rocky Balboa. But seriously, Batman is an excellent hand to hand combatant and has mastered many fighting styles, but in a straight up boxing match he losses. Even the toughest, most dominating MMA fighters routinely get their asses handed to them when they face a semi competent boxer, just ask Brock Lesnar. Without his bat gadgets and gloves on his hands to prevent finger thrusts to pressure points he's outta luck. It would be like going toe to toe and just standing there trading punches with Bane.
The only reason these boxers have a chance is because of the serum. Without it, Batman would make fools of them. It'd be the most terrifying display of combat prowess in human history, even if he was limited to just boxing.
Boxers don't routinely beat MMA champions by the way.
