About the whol Kirin thing...I wonder if Sasuke could use Amateratsu to speed up the process for generating a storm.

'Last time' was in Part 1. He hasn't lost control since, and he doesn't have Shukaku here.

It worked out fairly well. He barely got touched...at all.

He freaked out because he saw his own blood.

This is why he double layers it...making it impossible for Sasuke to touch him even with stabbitdy lightning stabs.

Edit - I'd Say Naruto's giant sage ball rasengan would be the best counter to Gaara's defense sandball thingie...even if he double layered.
