‘Transformers 4 and 5′ May Shoot Back-To-Back, Jason Statham Could Star

Our box office dollars asked for it and now Paramount is hoping to deliver a double dose. Earlier today, news broke that Hasbro is keen on getting director Michael Bay back behind the camera to shoot a fourth Transformers film. Variety is now reporting the plan is much bigger than that. They’re actually considering filming a fourth and fifth film simultaneously – much as Warner Bros. did with The Matrix sequels, Disney did with the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean films and Universal is considering with the sixth and seventh Fast and Furious movies. Transformers: Dark of the Moon screenwriter Ehren Kruger reportedly has an idea for both films and they’re current looking for writers. There’s more after the jump.

Variety’s story states that the decision to film both films in one big chunk actually saves money in the long run because there’s not as big a rush on expensive visual effects, no need for difficult contract negotiations with the actors and, in the case of Transformers, more time is given to designing and creating the all-important toy tie ins.

They also report Shia LaBeouf will not be back and that sources close to the production are, in fact, interested in Jason Statham to star in the films but no formal offer has been made.

If this does end up happening – and with the last film grossing over $1 billion dollars why wouldn’t it – it would be a massive commitment by all parties. In the past, Michael Bay was very vocal about wanting to move away from these films after three of them, and though doing two films back to back seems to go against that, Variety reports the aforementioned negotiations do suggest he’ll return. Personally, while I don’t want to see two more Transformer movies, I really don’t want to see two more Michael Bay Transformer movies. We’ve seen it. Let someone else have the huge checkbook.

What are your thoughts on this? Will it happen? Do you trust Ehren Kruger?

If this can really happen... 💃 I cannot stand LaBeouf.

I just LOVE the hypo-criticism behind this entire thing. Just before this, they claimed that they would not reboot the entire franchise. However, this in itself screams reboot. I apologize for any fans out there that have not seen the third installment, but they've killed off EVERY MOTHERF***ING DECEPTICON!!!! I cannot stress this enough! Even if they resurrect Megatron and turn him into Galvatron, there are no Decepticons to back him up! Even Cybertron got killed off!! So how in the world, no, universe, could they not call this a reboot? And for those who claim that Unicron will bring his forces back, he won't. Those people who've done the previous Transformers movies say that attempting something of THAT scale will not happen from them, and they are the ones who will be with Bay for all his movies. They just won't do it.

So Jason Statham will be doing it now

a while back he denied it.

Well maybe the strategy is to increase the levels of acting in the Baybots by completely replacing the humans with actors so wooden that literally anything looks like a sincere and convincing performance next to them...

Also from what i've ready Bay has'nt got plans to do a 4th movie he's gonna make some another movie, 'Pain & Gain' is the name of the movie

The pain of the audience for his and his partners' financial gain?

Dun dun duuuuuuuun

Well well well I guess none of us could see THAT coming...... 😖hifty:

I'm taking my childhood, my money, my intelligence, my dignity and running farrrrrrrr away when this comes out, so that they will not be assaulted in any way by hollywood's franchise-integrity-rape-gangs when they mount their coming 4th assault.

It will most likely be 80% plothole like the others, scripted by baboons, acted to new standards of woodenness, and will mostly be centered on the humans in keeping with everything these people have done so far. Prepare for more deep wang.

everybody needs to realize that every single one of these hollywood dicks want nothing more than to make sh!t they can merchandise.. happy meal toys, limited (or so they say) toy lines, video games, pajamas, lead-laden cups and other cheap made-in-china sh!t.. they don't care about the fans or what the fan wants or what actually makes a good movie, i don't care what they say or how sincere they appear.. it's all about the greenbacks, son.. more merchandise, more royalties, more monies..

Yeah a lot of people still don't get it yet.

People will drop their shit when the 1st trailer comes out and then they'll be ensnared for a fourth time.

It's true. He's baaaaaccckkkk...

Not that I'm complaining. I'm not a real fan of Michael Bay's other movies, but he does Transformers films just fine by me.

He does bayformers sometimes...

(When hes not missing the point by focusing on the trials and tribulations of the humans)

Who would you turn the series over to? Roland Emmerich, who came in second place to direct the first film years ago?

Heh. Most likely not....but at least the visual side would probably look good....maybe if he didn't have to get non cheese performances from actors it'd be cool.

Maybe Christopher Nolan or maybe James Cameron?

They didn't 'kill off' Cybertron; it just went back through the dimensional gateway to where it was before when the space bridge collapsed.

And since Michael Bay is now returning, it should mean they will continue the story established thus far. And the demand is till there for Unicron and the Dinobots to get in these; maybe that's what they will do with back to back sequels.

Anyway, I'm down for Jason Stathan as the main dude. Shia was the absolute worst part of the prior movies; so as long as he's out of it I don't care.

Whaddya mean " 🙄 " ..?

LeBeouf was just the heady surface pimple of a volcano of pus and bile.

Are you seriously asserting that Revenge of the Fallen's only problem was LeBeouf?

Transformers at its heart is a children's show with some mature themes sprinkled in. Someone like Christopher Nolan and James Nolan wouldn't even know what to do with a movie like Transformers. Transformers should be an action packed popcorn flick, nothing more. When was the last time you saw Chris Nolan or James Cameron make an incredible fight scene? Never. Batman, Aliens, T2 and Avatar are the most "actiony" of all their films, but even in those movies, the actual fight scenes themselves were average, at best.

LeBeouf was just the heady surface pimple of a volcano of pus and bile.

He wasn't the only problem with the movies, sure, but on the other hand, he''s the only thing that really grated on me throughout all the movies. He literally ruined in the second and third movie for me.

Like, were there other things wrong with the movies? Sure, giant robot balls and gangsterbots are stupid, but all of the most game breaking issues with the movie centered around Shia Ledouche., Take him out of the equation and the movies suddenly become tolerable. No retarded college scenes, no retarded parent scenes, no love triangles, no retarded co-worker scenes. Sounds fan****ingtastic.

As for things like keeping true to the Transformers canon, I could give less than a shit. I'm not a diehard transformers fan.

Firstly, thank you for eloborating. 🙂

The cartoon may have been as you describe..
The comic was a bit edgier.
And if that was true, why the masturbation gags, sex references/deep wang etc a feature?
Another big problem was the writing and director, script/performances wise and the fact that he uses the movies as a military recruitment drive, and centers the story round humans the whole time......lets say for argument's sake that it had been Leonardo DiCaprio or Matt Damon or hahahah Jason Statham lolz, instead of LeBeouf......the focus on the triviality of the humans instead of the warring Cybertronians was the problem.
It was effectively "the humans dating show movie/military ad" movie occasionally featuring generic robot "characters"...
Bad writing/concept.

This "the US military pwns all" message is all pervasive in the Bayformers movies, yet is completely absent in all the original stuff.
Whats the point of autobots being here if the Pentagon can take them out virtually at will.
Big plotholes like: Why did they not nuke chigago in the 3rd film..? Coulda taken out Megatron, Shockwave, most of the decepticons right there and then but noooooooooooooo...

Its not about how canonistic it is, it was about how shite the chosen deviation from that canon ended up being.
The original comic story had a lot that "nothing more than popcorn flick" so who say it should be "nothing more"?
OK, to be fair, Star Wars was also a big popcorn opus too, but that ruled.

And regarding fight scenes etc: Nolan and Cameron may not have been familiar with the orginal stuff, yet Bay wasnt either. And he didnt like the idea. After T1/T2/Avatar I could see Cameron doing well, paired with the special effects boys' efforts.
Nolan can direct action and coax performances from the actors.
So no problem there, once familiarity with the subject matter is learned. They are both talented at making movies, not just commercials, which Bay's talent has been limited to for a long time indeed.
Its not like I cited Kubrick as the series' ideal director...
when so much of the movie was done by the CGI boys, any director with ILM could arguably do that stuff these days...
