If the Government knew for a fact that the world will end in 2012

For example, the whole "giant asteroid" impact thing is very easy to fix. We just simply put some larger rockets on it and knock it off course. Moving it one one hundredth of a degree can make it move by thousands of km after it travels a several million kilometers. (for instance, if would knock it off course by about 6108 km if our rockets moved it at 35,000,000 km out).

So landing on a life-extinguishing asteroid as it's barreling through space and strapping 'X' amount of rockets to it is "very easy"? You've been watching to many SciFi films, dude.

Well it may be technically possible to land on the speeding asteroid if you were traveling at the same rate of velocity, but then you have to factor in that little bug called Murphy's Law. Imagine going through all of that crap, and the rocket's decided not to fire? Or the ones on the left side fired and not the ones on the right side?

DDD seems inclined to embrace fringe science, to the point that I'm completely lost on why he's so skeptical about photovoltaics.

I think the Mayan calender keeper wanted a pay raise on Dec 21 in the 16th Century, but the Emperor said no and killed him for his grievance.

I believe we would know when the world would end...too many people to not know unless it was something sooo huge it would wipe life out in a millisecond. We live all over this planet, what ever the disaster would have to impact both sides of the world for us not to notice this is probably the end for earthlings as we know it.
