The fact that you felt the need to fire off your credentials though meant not only did you buy into the insult, you paid it back with interest. I don't have anywhere near the claim to prestigious college/manga cum allatime/Random Music Fraternity I Got Into For Eating Rust etc., but I don't need to sling whatever I do have around to impress people I obviously don't like.
