Baddest, yet Most Obscure Villains.

Started by Horrificus10 pages

For you members who love stumbling across a character that had lots of potential, but has remained somewhat hidden over the years, you probably understand why I enjoy doing this.

Anyway...

Here are the next group of submissions you all have posted, all still waiting to be profiled for "Obscurity".

I will start checking info. And, today or tomorrow, I will post the formula I have been using to establish a rating.

I will tell you this, it involves the following criteria, along with sliding scale modifiers to keep the ratings as honest and unique as possible:

1. Total Number of Appearances (Original Story Involvement Only. No Handbooks, Reprints or Collections, etc.)

2. Total Number of Years Since First Appearance

3. Bonus Cap Point System - awarded depending on the following:
a. Was the character a One-Shot appearance?
b. Did the character have their own Comic Title.
c. How many years since their Last Appearance?

* Characters Not from Marvel or DC- Let's be honest, for the most part, it might be easier to find more obscure characters who don't come from the 2 biggest companies. But, it also doesn't seem to be as great an accomplishment as being Marvel/DC and somehow, remain hidden for long periods of time.

These characters will not be dealt in any special way. There will be no benefit or penalty for this status. If we see any pass through this thread, we can just see what happens for now. Test the waters.

Although there may be plenty of obscure non-Marvel/non-DC characters, it is much easier for them to have remained “Obscure”, due to most independent companies having less visibility than Marvel and DC.

For a "Quality" character to have been in a Marvel or DC book and yet, somehow, remain “obscure”, is a bigger accomplishment and much more surprising.

That is why I originally started this. It is hard to use one of these characters in the average VS thread, because without enough feats and background, you run out of gas quickly when going up against an established character.

But, at the same time, it seemed a shame for these "Badasses" to be sitting on the sidelines for all time. Used, abused and left behind, just to help create and/or maintain the "World-Saving" career of some goody-two-shoes hero.

It's just not right! 😠

Evil, Super-Villains are "People" too. Unless, they aren't. But, then, they still might have feelings! Um, unless they are a robot, android or some kind of energy creature, etc...

But, still! It's outrageous!

So, I will list them and rate them, "Obscurity-wise", and maybe you guys can figure out how to use them in here.

After all, most of you guys are pretty smart. 😕 Well, a lot of you guys are very intel... lookaround I mean, some of you have good personaliti.......
....wink1 You guys really like comics! And THAT'S what is most important.

I still say Black Manta. uhuh

African American Manta, you racist.

Explosive and Athletic Manta

The awe inspiring Doomslayer!

And these can't have feelings because?

Alright, maybe I am a bit biased, due to a relationship gone bad with this cute little AI I met a while back.

My apologies. 😉

When Geoff is done with him, he won't be obscure.

Homo-Arachnis
Submitted by - Parmaniac
Appearances - 6 Appearances / 1st Appearance – August 1994 / Last Appearance - January 1995
Obscurity Rating - 483
Claim to Fame - With Acidic Saliva, Invulnerability and Super Strength, Homo-Arachnis would have made a great opponent for several popular, helpful, "good" Marvel Heroes that currently come to mind. And, let's be honest, this image is truly disturbing.
When an actual profile is created, please update this thread with the location.

I'll give you one. Dark Lantern

Claim to Fame - This guy is bad news. No super powers, yet he has trained Sabretooth and fought Spider-Man to a draw. It would seem that he is the real deal.

WHAT A G

The following info includes the characters that needed their "Last Appearances" tracked down and added to their profiles. In some cases, I also made corrections concerning "Number of Appearances".

Since I added and/or changed this information, you will see that some of the Obscurity Ratings have changed.

I have to say that this thread is the first time I ever looked into Foreigner, and he is completely frigging awesome.

The low-power characters that are seriously dangerous are always a cool read.

Great addition!
