To be fair though, Fire Departments in many areas of the US are notoriously pro white-male and do their best to turn away anyone who isn't both white and male. They're like a brotherhood of @ssholes with hoses and such.

That's probably true...but ... the two gals working for my local city's fire department are fully capable and now one stopped them or made it more difficult for them to pass the test.
Does it make me a pansy to admire and look up to those two women?
