Im trying to remember the story arch, did Set achieve a higher power from the Cosmic Cube draining?

Set didn't do anything to the Cube. Dr. Strange and the heroes exhausted the Cube's power by using it to back an exorcism spell Strange was casting (while Strange was invoking all his artifacts!).
