Thats got to be either pre-crisis, has a extenuating circumstance or is just one of those stupid inconsistencies that occur in comics.

Yeah its PC, but Pre New 52 has ridiculous shit as well. Like pulling the mageddon wheel/cogs/whateva, holding black holes, escaping double black holes etc.

Or lifting that book in Final Crisis...

Just FYI, Asura defeated a being 7 times larger than the planet and also "God" in his universe. I don't know if that is relevant to Superman, but...............
