Because he gets his Green Ranger powers back, Tommy is also evil and has the intent to kill. He has eveything he had before during the Mighty Morphin series (Dragon Dagger, Dragon Shield, Blade Blaster, etc.) minus the Sword of Darkness and Dragonzord.

Fight is in an open field.

Will Kai Leng be able to kill him?

Kai Leng's notable feats are getting punked by Shepard, Thane...hell, the whole of the Nomandy's crew. Tommy at least was capable enough to to give the rangers a few beat downs before they turned the tables.

I dunno what he's done in the books.

The most notable thing I can recall about him is his sword is monomolecular. That's really it.
