Superman vs Thanos has never happened but in the 3 times I've seen Thor face Thanos, the Odinson didn't savage Thanos at all. Even with the enhancement of battle-armor it was a prolonged fight for Thor.

Odin couldn't handle Thanos without additional backing that means that Thanos is a threat.

If by "couldn't handle Thanos" you mean Thanos hit Odin with everything he had (and he had help from the SS) and didn't even budge him, while Odin blasted Thanos around to the point where Thanos could barely get up, then you're right, he couldn't handle him.
