The main difference between you and me is that for you it sounds like Gritty equals tough moral issues, I don't really see it that way.

Just because Nolan went for a more 'realistic approach' and a more gritty approach does not in and of itself mean to me he produced a less safe movie especially now when those types of movies have become common place. Even more so when I think back to the Burton films who did 2 decades ago minus the realistic part at times.

And just because the Avengers didn't go super gritty does not mean they played it safe.

From there you and I can have varying degrees of how we felt each movie played it more or less safe than others. I might even agree with you overall that the Batman series may have played some things less safe, but that does not mean I believe the Avengers was this candyland sort of place like you.

Gritty doesn't necessarily have anything to do with realism, sadly. I'm not saying that it has to be dark, I'm saying that they need to deal with some real issues or at the very least make their threat seem like an actual threat.

I'm not saying that they played it safe because it wasn't dark. Dark and relatable aren't always connected, just like realism and grittiness don't always have something in common. I'm saying that the Avengers was safe because it had an overly simplistic plot, had virtually no moral grey zones, did not put the heroes in any truly difficult situations, chock-full of 3D action and shallow puns.

I feel like you're not actually responding to my arguments but rather just mirroring a general outline of what I'm saying. If you don't want to actually get into this, that's fine. It doesn't have to be more complicated than the fact that you just like Avengers more 😄

not really. batman and superman games were notoriously sup-par

Eh? Batman games were consistently well-rated, and often acclaimed.

NES Batman is a very well loved game.
ZX Spectrum Batman was acclaimed
Adventures of Batman and Robin on Genesis was well reviewed and remains well liked.
Batman Returns on NES was well liked
Batman on GameBoy was well reviewed
Batman on Genesis was well liked.
Batman Returns on SNES is very popular

The later film tie-ins were admittedly pure trash though.

I prefer the Sega CD version myself.

This game however was rather unfortunate.

not really. batman and superman games were notoriously sup-par, superman especially is labelled as "cursed". the arkham games are good, and you can throw in the yet to be released injustice one (pretty much based off of mk in a lot of ways), and the mmo, but what else is there?

both companies have a handful of decent games with their licenses so it's not really that great of a win for either.

batman's adaptation of the 89 movie was a good game. Hell, despite its simplicity, its still playable even today.

Came close to a GOOD Superman game but it was cancelled

Superman Returns was all right. It wasn't great, but it wasn't shit either. I enjoyed it more than the Green Lantern game, or that god awful Iron Man series.

The Death and Return of Superman (SNES) is ok, its repetitive, but then all 16-bit beat-em-ups are really.

I found Batman Returns (Master System) was also very enjoyable

Adventures of Batman and Robin (SNES) is also kind of alright, a lot of people like the game a lot but to be honest it kind of pissed me off most of the time.

It only just occurred to me that virtually every one of those early console Batman games were exclusives, they'd always have the same name but each version would be different. Batman (NES), Batman (Genesis), and Batman (GameBoy) were all completely different games, Adventures of Batman and Robin (Genesis), and Adventures of Batman and Robin (SNES) completely different, Batman Returns (SNES), Batman Returns (Master System), Batman Returns (NES), Batman Returns (Genesis) again were all different (the Genesis game also sucks unfortunately).

Thats quite odd when you think about it, I wonder if DC were easy going with the Batman videogame rights or something.
