The World R:1

The World is the first massively multi-player online RPG since Pluto's Kiss. Developed for the ALTIMIT OS, The World had a lot of media hype, resulting in over 100,000 preorders being taken in November of 2007. The World was sold online for download, and in the first day alone it sold 4,576,623 copies.

The World was created by the genius programmer Harald Hoerwick under the name Fragment. Fragment was released as a limited beta approximately nine months prior to the release of The World. The beta was stopped early for unknown reasons and The World was released shortly afterwards.

The World's storyline is based off of the Epitaph of Twilight, an epic poem by the web author Emma Wielant. In the game the world has been under attack by monsters, which has forced the forces of good to retreat into fiercly defended cities and forts. Only adventurers (represented by the players) are allowed to penetrate the magical shields around these safe havens and battle with the monsters that lurk outside. These adventurers draw their power through their mastery of waves, symbols that are inscribed onto their bodies and equipment that allow them to channel the power of the elements into their bodies in the form of magical skills and abilities.

The World R:2

In 2015, a fire destroyed most of The World's game data, so CC Corp quickly began work on a replacement. By splicing together the remaining data from The World with another game they were working on, they created R:2. It was released on Christmas Eve, 2015. However, fans of The World disliked the change as they were unable to transfer their character data to The World R:2, and many referred to the launch as "Goddess's Death". Despite this fact, the game goes on to sell 12 million copies, though it still falls short of its predecessor's 20 million.

R:2 has a much more in-depth background story for the players, which takes place about a hundred years after the background story of The World. Much of the world of R:2 uses steam as a form of power, creating a steampunk fantasy setting. Many more races are present within the game, including humans and beasts, who are divided into three different Factions.

Character classes are a bit more ranged, now, than previously, and consist of the following:

Macabre Dancer: For those who like fans.
Edge Punisher: For those who like greatswords.
Flick Reaper: For those who like scythes.

Steam Gunner: For those who like range and melee.
Tribal Grappler: For those who like to use their fists.

Arsenic's Devil's Blade is a rare set of Twin Blades he found while out raiding high level dungeons. He has found better equipment along the way, however he has grown attached to this particular set, and refuses to upgrade his blades.
In-Game Info: Inside the game, Arsenic is your standard dungeon raider. He loves hunting out new challenges and rare equipment. He leads the guild Echoes of Black Fury.
IRL Info: Kiryu himself, outside of The World, is a quieter type. He makes a living as a manga artist/writer, but lately has spent more time on The World than he has on his series, blaming it on writer's block. He plays The World in order to find inspiration for his work, however he usually gets sidetracked looking for rare loot instead. He initally joined The World R:1 to see what all the hype was about, but eventually became hooked on the game, thanks to his now ex, Yui. He tried to quit playing after they had split, however he convinced himself that the guild had already lost one member, and didn't need another one to bail out on them, as well. While raiding a dungeon after a negative encounter with Scythe, Arsenic ran into trouble when a group of infamous PKers appeared in front of him. Taking note of them and escaping from the battle zone, Arsenic prepared to Gate Out as he was ill-prepared to deal with the high level PKers. However, he found himself unable to gate out, due to the PKers using illegal mod gear to cancel his action. Backed into a corner, Arsenic was saved when a group of Knights arrived, lead by one of CC Corp's Administrators-- Hitomi of the Silver Fang. After the rescue, Hitomi and Arsenic became involved, thus causing his disputes with Scythe to grow more and more intense.

Scythe's Weapon is a rare and unique item gained from a special quest alongside her teammate; Raven.
On a special side note, Scythe's Weapon may change but it always appears as the same weapon due to a Weapon Skin Mod that Scythe used.
In-Game Info: Scythe joined 'The World' due to her natural fascination with the game. Scythe is an Intermediate Level Flick Reaper and a Hacker. Despite her bountiful use of hacks and mods, Scythe continues to evade the 'ever present eye' of CC Corp. Due to her real life issues with the player of the Twin Blade, Arsenic, she can sometimes be found in The World in a heated conflict with him. This tends to draw a crowd as people are interested in how the Dungeon Raider Arsenic and the Elusive Reaper Scythe will do battle. After Scythe and Arsenic parted in the real world, Scythe became partners with a Tribal Grappler named Raven. Together, they've completed many rare quests and gained the attention of more then just CC Corp. Scythe has herself become infamous for slaying Guild's solo by using hacks. To this day, she's never been caught.
IRL Info: An original player of The World R:1, Yui is a Hardcore Gamer and big on technology. Not exactly one to appease herself with the simplicities of the gaming rules, Yui is a known hacker and exploits many in-game bugs. Yui carried over her gaming career with Kiryu into The World R:2. Having taken a great deal of interest in it, Yui pushed Kiryu to invest more interest in The World and for a time he did. Eventually, conflict flared between the two and pushed them apart after many years spent so close. After they parted ways, Kiryu became less active in the world for a short time but Yui stayed around and became that much more persistent, investing even more of her time into The World in order to forget about her problems in real life. After splitting ways with Kiryu, Yui almost never came out of The World-- both eating and sleeping while logged on. Despite this, Yui uses her portable device to make sure that even when she does leave the house -- she's always logged in. This has caused a tear between her and her family, making her socially deceased.

In-Game Info: When Raven first logged into The World, he met the infamous Hacker 'Scythe' who was in a conflict with CC Corp. Jumping to conclusions, thinking that the mysterious girl was in over her head and that the people facing off against her were something alone the lines of PKers, Raven grabbed Scythe's arm and made a run for it through the Delta Server. After escaping, Scythe both congratulated him on his courage and scolded him for his irrational actions. Despite that, the two teamed up and Scythe taught Raven and helped him to grow strong. Raven took the Tribal Grappler class as a point that he prefers dealing with problems with his own two hands. Despite this constant point he tries to make, he has no qualms about pairing up with Scythe in The World. Together, along with the talented Flick Reaper, they make up the Duo known as 'Dread-Edge'. A Forum nickname that was inspired by their ability to tear through their enemies without mercy.
Real Life Info: Jasper is not a very enthusiastic person, though he can be friendly when propositioned to do such. He spends most of his time while outside of 'The World' listening to music on his own in a secluded spot. Unlike his partner in 'The World', Raven isn't located in Japan but rather in England. Although he doesn't mention it, Jasper has a sort of resentment toward the player behind Arsenic due to the state he left Scythe's player in. For this reason, Jasper supports Yui to keep working hard so that she can enjoy The World again.

Getting 'The World'
The World is an MMORPG in the year 2015-2017. It was released at the same time on December 24th, 2015 in the United States, Europe, and Japan. It's both purchasable in a hardcopy from stores or downloadable from the internet.

Interface - The Headset
The headset for 'The World R:2' is a some what large visor that rests over your eyes. It helps you to talk, hear, and see everything in The World as if you were really there -- a virtual reality type device.

The Controller
A USB Controller used for online games.

Loading 'The World'
When you load 'The World', the first thing to be done will be logging in. If you haven't made your character yet, make sure to do so.

Message System
The Messaging System is the Email System between users. When logging in for the first time, you will get the typical 'Thank you for joining' email from CC Corp. In the message system, you can check Received Emails, Sent Emails, and the online Profile of people who's member addresses you have. If you want to email someone, make sure to get their Member Address while in-game.

BBS
The Community Forums for 'The World' are full of information that anyone can find useful from time to time. It consists of five forum sections. 'The World (Forum)' which talks about specific aspects of The World. 'Crimson VS (Forum)' which talks about the card game developed alongside 'The World'. 'News' where people can talk about The News specifically, outside of The World. 'Rumors' where users can post and talk about rumors they heard or want to start. 'Apkallu' which is an art forum where people can share their own concept art and drawings with other players or comment on them. These forums are not monitored by CC Corp, so even topics about illegal aspects of the game can be discussed.

Entering 'The World'
Upon entering The World for the first time, your PC will appear in the DELTA Server in a town called 'Mac Anu'. The area around you will appear like a small dome. After unlocking the areas when gaining higher levels, the player can change their Root Town so that when they log in to the game, they will load in another server. There are four Servers.

Delta//Mac Anu
In The World R:2 Mac Anu returns as the Root Town of Delta Server, though it is now a much larger city than it was before. Many @HOMEs are located here, as well as many Lost Grounds. There is an Alchemy District and Mercenary District.
Mac Anu - in 'The World R:2' Storyline
In the storyline of The World R:2, Mac Anu is the seat of power for the Arvakv faction. Additionally, Anu is the goddess of the stars, replacing Krake in The World's Pantheon.

Theta//Dol Dona
Dol Dona is a mid-level Root Town. Medium-sized guilds' @HOMEs are located here.
Dol Dona - in 'The World R:2' Storyline
Dol Dona is built atop a fallen fragment of Fort Ouph. The city itself is controlled by the Beast-dominated Ogmios Faction and their leader Bipu Bapu. Because of this Beasts comprise most of Dol Dona's population.

Omega//Lumina Cloth
Lumina Cloth houses the Arena and the @HOME of Icolo, a guild consisting of the Arena champions, or Emperors. Having no fields, the only PKing that can occur in Lumina Cloth is in the Arena. Since it houses the Arena, Lumina Cloth is frequented by players of all levels, and is an ideal place to obtain rare items through trade.

In the storyline of The World R:2, Lumina Cloth is the seat of power for the Teutates clan.

Sigma//Breg Epona
In The World R:2, the city of Breg Epona replaces Fort Ouph as the Root Town of Sigma Server. Breg Epona's chaos gate allows players to travel to fields and dungeons with the highest leveled monsters in the game.

Breg Epona served as a last resort weapons factory made by the Humans during their conflicts with the Beast Tribes.

The Chaos Gate
Every Root Town contains a Chaos Gate, a gate which allows players to transport themselves between Servers and to Fields and Dungeons.

In The World, Chaos Gates close the town to the fields, deterring monster attacks. On rare occasion, however, CC Corp's unique Events sometimes stage a battle in a server's Root Town.

These gates allow access to all of the server's "fields," which contain Monsters to slay and Dungeons to explore. Players assemble a code of 3 keywords, and based on those keywords, are teleported to a field whose parameters are directly affected by each keyword's specific properties. Each keyword affects specific attributes of the given field, from the type of field, to the monster level and population.

These gates appear as a golden circular disc hovering in the air, spinning in circles, with a blue screen, as if to show into other worlds. When activated, the gate is encompassed by spinning golden bands, rapidly circling around it. Golden bands rapidly circle around the players downward, and the players are then teleported to their specified destination, appearing with golden bands spinning in circles around the player downwards. There are also special gates located throughout The World.

Chaos Gates in The World R:2
In The World R:2, smaller sub-varieties of gates exist in addition to Chaos Gates:

- Warp Points are teleporters used by players to move around Root Towns, Dungeons, and Fields. Warp Points found on fields require Chim Spheres to operate.
- Platforms are found throughout fields and dungeons, and are used to return to a town's Chaos Gate, akin to the "Gate Out" feature in The World. Guilds of rank 3 or above can also use platforms to access their storage.

Fields (Area 1/3)
Fields are the most basic area of The World. They are reached by creating different three word (more accurately "phrase"😉 combinations at a Chaos Gate in a Root Town. Fields exist in both The World and The World R:2, but are somewhat different.

Fields are one of the three types of areas in The World R:2 (along with dungeons and lost grounds). All fields are of one basic scenery type, but vary in weather. Each field has a corresponding mission, sometimes a quest, which usually consists of either unlocking and entering the underground treasure room or defeating a boss.

Monsters are scattered across the fields, and there is usually also a Mecha Grunty and Lucky Animal on each. There are also occasionally Unlucky Animals, and idle players may find themselves attacked by a Doppelganger. There are some fields with rivers or ravines that can only be crossed via Warp Point. PvP battles are also not uncommon on fields, particularly in areas that end with the word "Berserker".

Dungeons (Area 2/3)
In The World R:2, dungeons are a separate type of area from fields, which players can enter directly from a Chaos Gate. For many dungeons the goal is to reach the Beast Statue or defeat a boss, though various quests may require other conditions to be met. There are four known types of dungeons in The World R:2, they include:
- Caves
- Shrines
- Towers
- Forests

Lost Grounds (Area 3/3)
The Lost Grounds are special areas within The World that have existed since Fragment. This title is first used in The World R:2. Lost Grounds seem to be synonymous with Sacred Zones, areas based on the story of the Epitaph of the Twilight. They may or may not be related to the Legendary Lands, areas related to the story of The World. One of the Lost Grounds, The Creator's Room, is also known to be one of Harald's Rooms. The Japanese festival-themed area Δ Hidden Forbidden Festival matches the "Hidden Forbidden" naming pattern most Lost Grounds share, but it is unknown if this area is also a Lost Ground.

Beast Statue
Beast Statues are located in temples scattered throughout fields and dungeons in The World R:2. In front of each statue is a special treasure offering which contains powerful equipment or rare items. The statues on Delta Server are actually of Folset, the God of Justice, but most players in the game are not aware of this fact.

Doppleganger
A Doppelganger is a special monster in The World R:2. If a player avoids battling for five minutes on a field, or if they go to a field with the 3rd keyword Moonlight, a darkness-shrouded version of that character's PC will appear and attack them. Doppelganger starts off eight levels higher than the player and draws its stats from what the player's would be at that same level if they were unaltered by items.

Goblin Tag
Goblin Tag is an event in The World and The World R:2. In the event players attempt to catch one or more special Gold Goblins. The player's goal is to either kill or hit the goblin. The goblins all cast Rig Seam on themselves if the player gets too far away. To distinguish them from regular Goblin Monsters, each of the Gold Goblins has their own name, and personality. The Goblins are:
- Stehoney, the newest and weakest member of the Golden Goblins. He is always the first goblin the player faces, and is the least challenging.
- Jonue, the second Golden Goblin and the first real member of the Golden Goblin squad. Though he is stronger than Stehoney he is still fairly weak and easy to catch.
- Zyan, the third Golden Goblin. Zyan distinguishes himself by being a workaholic obsessed with physical strength. He sometimes appears alongside the fourth Golden Goblin, Albert.
- Albert is the fourth Golden Goblin, and the second in command of the Golden Goblin squad. Though he is sometimes paired with Zyan, he is able to function fine on his own.
- Martina, the fifth Golden Goblin and the only female goblin in the group. As the leader of the Golden Goblin squad she leaves most of the work to her minions, but when faced with a serious threat she is not afraid to get her hands dirty. The most powerful of the Goblins, defeating her can be quite a challenge.

In The World R:2, instead of having to run after them the player can use their Steam Bike to chase after them and ram them.

Steam Bikes are steam-powered motorcycles used by guild leaders and those rich enough to afford one in The World R:2. They offer a considerable boost in speed in both fields and Root Towns. However, Steam Bikes cannot be used in dungeons. Bikes have their own category in the Ryu Books.

Steam Bike - Combat
Steam Bikes can be used to crash into monsters to deal damage, counting as a surprise attack when successful. They are also able to run over Lucky Animals and Chim Chims. After crashing into an enemy on the steam bike and initiating combat, the steam bike must be dismounted until the battle ends.

Guild Master Certification Event
The Guild Master Certification Event is a special event in The World R:2 available exclusively to new Guildmasters. In it, the new Guildmaster has to perform several tasks for his or her guild's Grunty. Doing so unlocks all of the features of that Guild's @HOME. The event is different for each Guildmaster, so its hard to predict exactly what it will entail. However most events involve the Guildmaster cooperating with his or her guildmates to complete the tasks.

The Arena
The Arena is an area for PvP combat located on the Omega Server. Unlike the PKing that occurs in other parts of The World R:2, all combat in the Arena is consensual. Some guilds exist solely for Arena competition. As items cannot be used in the Arena, Harvest Clerics and other casters are considered invaluable.

There are three Arena circuits by level, called Palaces. The three palaces are:
- Demon Palace
- Holy Palace
- Sage Palace

In the Arena, teams of up to three players fight against each other in organized matches. Successful wins earn each team points, which increase their rank in their arena Palace. After a certain period of time, the top 16 teams in a Palace will face each other in a tournament. The winner of this tournament then holds an exhibition match against the current Emperor. Whoever wins becomes the current Emperor of that palace, and will keep that title as long as they continue defeating challengers. A player can only be an Emperor of one palace at a time.

All Arena matches are overseen by a mysterious Commentator. Little is known about this man, not even if he's a CC Corp employee. His peculiar nature has earned him a small fan club. Occasionally he invites other players to announce with him, usually a high ranking officer in one of the combatant's guilds.

An Adept Rogue Only Special Event Quest that allows an Adept Rogue to access their second or third Job Extensions. These quests are not always available but alerts that the quests are available can be found on the BBS.

In-Game Info: AppleJuice has not been logged into The world for very long. However she has still gotten some bad reputation among those who pass from Newbie to experienced levels, nicknamed as 'The Healing Blunder'. She is easily distracted by The World and tends to forget what they are doing and very often falls into traps or gets the attention of enemy Mobs.
IRL Info: ADHD. That is the best thing to describe Katherine. Amazed by The World she tends to wander about, forgetting she is with a party and most often talks about what is going on outside her window then what is going on in the game. This tends to make her not pay attention and walk into bad things. She is quick to whine when something bad happens but tends to focus when people call her a child, trying to prove them wrong.

Hitomi is a powerful PC who many identify as "The Light of Judgment". Hitomi as a character tends to target and eliminate any and all characters with even a hint of cheat in their character without discrimination.
IRL Info: Mariko is not all that different offline from how she is in 'The World'. She has a strong sense of justice, believing good should always triumph over evil. She takes this to a fault, believing even players who aid a cheater should be eliminated from The World and never be allowed to join the games again. A CC Corp Employee, Mariko spends much of her time working around The World, however she still has a sense of real life -- something that is a counter balance for her boyfriends ex. After an in-game incident where she saved the character 'Arsenic', Mariko met with the player Kiryu in the real world and a relationship was sparked. Though she gives no special treatment to her new lover, she does show a soft spot for him -- ignoring his past with the infamous hacker 'Scythe' in The World. Mariko prefers spending time in the real world more then in-game, often saying things such as: "Spending so much time in The World is a good way to lose a feel for who you really are".

Yeah, finding the player was a difficult task actually. The player in my mind had to be able to have a serious look about them, but at the same time have some sense of levity. She had to look smart, at least to a point, but also be very attractive. In the end, I settled with the major because she gets the closest to that look I was going with.

Left this on the OOC chat, but just in case no one logs in to see it, I'm going to have sporadic logins for a few days, as I'm going out of town to visit my mum for her birthday. I'll be back to my normal schedule around late night Friday/early morning Saturday.
