yeah, one of the big things in the dos arc was that supes never really fought along side the jla, and that wasn't the jla big guns--no flash, ww, hal.....add those guys and superman and they would have stopped him. not easily by any stretch of the imagination--but they would have done so, like this avengers team would. thor and hulk together at the end would likely be able to do it.

I think a big deal of it is DoS' invulnerability.
Take Fire in example, if she doesn't have enough juice to get over that little peak or whatever, then she's just not doing anything at all. Unless they get to pierce his durability they're probably not doing much. That's why things seemed impossible until Superman actually started hitting as hard as he good.
