Book review

Yesterday I finished "The Count of Monte Cristo" and it was one hell of a long book. I think there are different (shorter) versions of this book, but I opted for the full full long version. My copy had notes printed at the back to explain certain references/words that todays reader may not understand, and I suggest anyone attempting to read it get one similar.

It tells the story of Edmond Dantes and his fall from almost complete happiness to absolute ruin, at the hands of three men who he believed friends. It tells of his 14 years in prison, his escape and his eventual return as the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo, hell bent on revenge.

The language and social etiquette can be at times a little confusing but its set in France during the 1800's, which explains it, but after a while I got used to it all. I think the story is a little too long, but it was originally serialised in a magazine/newspaper I think, which explains it again!

I read "Crime & Punishment" last, which was a depressing but good novel. The Count of Monte Cristo is a real adventure book with riches, bandits, murder, love and so much more its hard to compare the two together!

I give the book 8/10 (its a great story but loses a point for the sheer length of it)

I see...well the movie was good, I never had plans for reading the book though

I haven't seen the movie, they must have chopped a hell of a lot out....

Is the book better then the movie.

Well I dunno...the first version I think I saw was a Wishbone Episode...
Then I saw this movie and it was good, but I'm sure they did cut out a lot...they usu do with movies

They've got the film on cable pay-per-view at the moment, I may watch it this week.

the movie was good.

isn't pay per view really expensive?

Its about the same as renting a film, but without having to get my ass in the car and go to the video shop.

The american way I say.

oh I thought it was like 40 dollars or somehting crazy like that

3 squid (I think).

3 WHAT?

Sorry, slipped into Blightly-talk....

3 squid = 3 quid = £3

gotta love wishbone. 😄

i haven't had a chance to read any (non-math text-) books for a while..the last thing i read was "life of pi," about a coupla months ago.
it was pretty good. i found the first ...3 quarters of it rather tedious, but the ending was excellent. 10/10

haven't seen the movie either.
Heard the book is ok though

I started "Day of the Jackel" last night, its pretty good. It's only set in bloody France again though! 🙄

The Jackel himself seems double-hard so far, but I'd wager I could take him. 😎

Hmmm, my money's on the Jackel

I'd grab his front two paws and pull them apart sharply.

That'll learn him. 😎

Hmmm, four legs good, two legs bad.
