Don't know how legit this is, but a spoiler free review of BVS.
So I don't know if I can really call this a true review since the cut we saw wasn't finished, but about a two weeks ago I was invited to see a screening of Batman v Superman at WB. I'm not gonna talk much about the plot that hasn't been revealed already, so don't worry about spoilers. I just really want to give my thoughts on the movie and I just cannot wait until next year to talk about it!Guys...this movie is ****ing awesome! If you were a fan of Man of Steel, you will love this movie. If you were let down by Man of Steel, this movie will not only exceed your expectations, but it will make you appreciate some of the events in that movie that maybe you had a problem with before.
The acting, holy crap! I'd normally save the best for last, but screw it, Ben Affleck KILLS IT! He is THE definitive Batman! He is everything me and millions of other fans have been waiting for in terms of Batman onscreen. He is brutal, he intense, he fights like a BEAST! He's also fantastic as Bruce Wayne, completely delivering on that smug charm the Bruce Wayne persona has, but he's also great as the true Bruce Wayne. That dark, damaged soul. You are going to be BEGGING for Affleck's solo movie when you leave the theater next March! He's that good!
Another show stealer is Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. I'll say this right now, not everyone is gonna love him. If you didn't like him in the trailer, you're not gonna like him in the movie. What you see there is pretty much what you get. He's an egotistical, slimy little *******, but he's also one of the most powerful and intelligent people in this world. Every time he pops up onscreen you just want to see Batman or Superman come in and punch him in the face! It's awesome! He has a few really great villain monologues too and they're just amazing!
The one other cast member I'll go into detail on is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman since I know a lot of people are skeptical of her. Personally, I thought she was good! She doesn't have a huge amount of screen time, but she does have an important role to play, and she kicks total ass in her action scenes! Jury's still out if she can carry her own movie, but judging by her performance in this, I think it's very possible.
As for the rest of the cast, everyone does a fantastic job. Cavill completely owns the role of Superman. He has a really strong arc throughout the film in really discovering who he is and what he's meant to be. Amy Adams is really good too, and I also bought into the Lois/Clark relationship a lot more than in MOS. Holly Hunter also has a significant role. I thought she was great and she plays a really strong character in the film, as this sort of neutral figure trying to figure out whether the world can trust Superman or not. Also, Scoot McNairy is really good in the small role he has! I don't wanna say who he's playing because I think they're trying to keep that a surprise, but I'll just say he has a really fun character here.
As for cameos from other Justice League members, I'm sure you've read all the rumors about who's in it, who's not in it, etc. I'll just say this, there are more than one, I won't say who, but all are handled well and they don't feel crammed in. They feel very genuine.
This is hands down Zack Snyder's best film to date. Chris Terrio's script is absolutely genius, with some seriously brilliant dialogue that more than makes up for some of the ridiculous lines we got in MOS (Sorry, Goyer). The story is beautifully told, with the structure being very different stylistically and tonally than in MOS. There are flashbacks, but nowhere near as many, and they are primarily only used to introduce Batman. The death of Bruce's parents that you see in the trailer is really well-done, though personally I think the best version is still the one seen in Batman Begins.
The film feels much grander in scale and is VERY comic-booky. Visually it looks a lot like Watchmen in places, The colors standout much more here than in MOS as well. The cinematography is absolutely beautiful, in fact this may be the best LOOKING cbm I've ever seen. There are even several shots that are LITERALLY ripped right out of the comics!
And the action. OH. MY. GOD. The action scenes are incredible, and the Batman vs Superman fight scenes (Yes! There are two!) were everything I dreamed they would be! And for you Superman fans who are afraid Batman is just gonna walk all over Supes and make him look like a chump, don't you worry. Superman gets his time to shine several times throughout both of these fights. I won't say who wins, or if anybody wins, but trust me, you will NOT be letdown.
The ending battle scene is amazing as well. Not quite as intense and engaging as the one on one BvS fights, but still so much fun, great spectacle, and it really shows the beginnings of what's to come when we finally get Justice League!
As I said, the film wasn't finished. So the music and the visual effects weren't 100% done, but the effects that were completed looked great! There is a lot, and I mean A LOT of cgi, but unlike in MOS where it sometime looked a bit out of place and almost like a video game, here it beautifully fits into this reinvented DC universe Snyder has created.
Idk what else to really say about it. I just needed to let people know to start getting excited because this movie is going to BLOW YOU AWAY! I'm not sure where I'd rank it among other cbms, but it's definitely in my Top 10, maybe even Top 5. This movie is fantastic, I loved every second of it. My one complaint is that it does feel a little too long. I think it was about 2 hours and 30-40 minutes? Give or take a few minutes. There are a few sequences here and there that I just think could be tightened up a bit, so hopefully they do cut it down a little for the final cut.
Overall, I loved Batman v Superman, I CANNOT WAIT to see the finished film, and I am SO EXCITED for everyone else to see it when it finally comes out next year!
