I don't get it, what's so great about Griffith? His motives are plain, it's not really possible to relate to him or to justify his actions past the Eclipse, and he's not that interesting.

Personally I'll go with Sōsuke Aizen.

1. Seta Sojiro - Rurouni Kenshin
2. Raoh - Fist of the North Star
3. Shonen Bat - Paranoia Agent
4. Makoto Shishio - Rurouni Kenshin
5. Souther - Fist of the North Star

1. King Bradley - FMA:B
2. Alucard - Hellsing Ultimate (meh, close enough to being a villain)
3. Gendo Ikari - Neon Genesis Evangelion
4. Light Yagami - Death Note
5. Orochimaru - Naruto

You need to be more subtle when you troll.

1. Deishuu Kaiki (Monogatari)
2. Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter)
3. Kirei Kotomine (Fate/Zero)
4. Makoto Shishio (Rurouni Kenshin)
5. Dio Brando (Jojo's Bizzare Adventure)

Griffith (Berserk) for honorary mention.

would anti-heroes like Lelouch (Code Geass) and Light Yagami (Death Note) count as villains?

How does one connect with Aizen? He's also as generic as they come. His Majesty >>

Lelouch maybe, Light absolutely.

Lelouch, no. Light, yes.

Who is wrath?.

Thats a spoiler. And depends on which version of Fullmetal Alchemist you watch.
