I cant think of any line up the Defenders have ever had that would take this line up.
Dr fate has had several good fights with Spectre where he faired better than any other
Jakeem is basically a reality warper who can solo a lot unless plot gets in the way
Hourman 1 mill can devolve anyone to a point in time they aren't a problem ( SS could become normal again, Stephen Strange the surgeon before mystic, Hulk is Banner before gamma exposure etc)
Alan can take on the most powerful Defenders and at least win some ( granted in character Strange and Surfer would take a slight majority Hellstrom he would take the slight majority from)
Obsidian can actually take possession of and control entire teams ( he's actually done that to the amassed rest of the team list here except E22 Supes and could solo almost any lime up with the right conditions.

KC Supes and Billy are really the only two characters the best Defenders line up could take down and they'd have to fight for that

Ya but your useing heroes from diffrent timeline to beef that JSA team up more than there standard being..

If you do that with the defenders, they be crazy beast!!

JSA usually has big lineups like that. In Geoff's team, Black Adam and Captain Marvel were on the same team. Among Hourman and Alan, etc...

This is the second time you've said that and it is false.
I didn't coin the line up.
That line up as it exists is a line that has existed twice with in each case only one member left off the list.

The list as is was all a part of the JSA except Kingdom Come Superman throughout the entire 1999 run of the JSA. Fate (Hector), Hourman 1 mill, Alan, Obsidian, Jakeem, and Captain marvel were all members of the JSA at the same time for almost a couple dozen issues.

Take Hourman out and put KC Supes in and you have a line up from The more recent Justice Society ( with almost another dozen members to boot ). Franky since Black Adam was a line up of the team during that run with the above it's not like they needed E22 Supes to beef anything, since other time manipulators also Joined the JSA Hourman 1 mill is also not essential

Nothing here is beefed up. the original line up of the JSA (very first appearance) included Spectre, Dr Fate, Alan Scot, Jay Garrick AND had Johnny Thunder as a god dam Mascot. There is never a need to BEEF the JSA they are too damn powerful a team to need it.

Avengers

Yeah, outside of maybe KC Supes, there's no artificial amping of that JSA roster. They're just ridiculously badass. And during those runs, it was a much better book than JLA even outside of power levels.

I thought that Starbrand would bring balance to the fight while giving Dr. Strange and Thor necessary backup.

He'd help. But it's not enough. Unless he can handle two at once for an extended period, AND hope that the other matchups go his team's way.

Yeah, JSA was much better than JLA at that time. Princes of Darkness, Black Reign, Injustice be done and all the other story arcs shit on anything JLA produced other than maybe Rock of Ages and World War Three in terms of quality.

I agree to a point. the last half of the second run lost it's way badly. Before Johns left he tried to cram too many damn characters on the team. Now considering I'm a fan of All Star Squadron and Legion of Super Heroes ( two teams with 50+ members) that's saying something. The problem was Johns tried to showcase too many in a single issue. Roy Thomas on A.S.S only ever had a dozen at most active at a time per issue. Usually we say 8 or 9 engaged in the current tale and some occasional pages showing what 4 or five more were up to leading in tot eh next story ow one after. Legion was done much the same but Johns tried to IMO showcase everyone to much and it slowed the story down too much for it. I had hope when Willingham took over ( es[ecially based on Fables) but he never seemed to get off the ground and Guggenhiem in my opinion ( after his totally skrewing the character portrayal of every single JSA member) is a complete and utter HACK

Who was the hack who designed alan's literal lantern costume? Good god, that was atrocious!!!!!!

yeah IIRC Scot Collins was penciller at the time. mind you he wouldnt have needed to draw a new look if Guggenheim hadnt written such a load of trite. Suddenlt Alan couldnt heal himself because it took too mich will and might let the starheart take control again, but his very form is energy taken shape by his will. so basically it would have taken as much will to have an injured form as a healthy one, absolute crapola.
