After the Pool of Knowledge, it's heavily implied that Taalon may be more powerful than Luke.

No. Once he fell into the Pool of Knowledge, he was more like Abeloth's ***** with a destroyed mind...which is why Vestara Khai killed him. Regardless, he was still quite powerful, ill give it to him.

I dont remember reading that in the book, but I would bevel it. Once he fell into the Pool of Knowledge, he hypotheticaly had the strength of a One (Daughter or Son).

Which raises the question of why Abeloth never dismissed Luke in that manner.
