Your OP is missing information. You need to define from which timeline the Z-Fighters come from in order to compare them to the Ginyu.

Yeah, but I assume that after fighting the Ginyu goons and fighting for as long as he did against Frieza (Plus whatever happened to him in Otherworld for the short time he was there) may have given him a boost post Namek, even if it is just in experience alone.
Then we have the training leading up to the Androids arrival (Since we are excluding the whole Garlic Jr saga thing as that was all filler AFAIK)

#19 and #20 sensed a ki that was too large to be an average human, so they assumed it was Goku:

Given that they hadn't seen/recorded Goku since he left for Namek in the wake of the Saiyan-saga, that is the last PL for him they'd of had as a comparison(I think Goku was in the 30,000's back then /w/ his kaioken multiplier..?) Anyway, #20 did comment that they could still get "a lot" of energy from Yamcha, so there's that.
Regardless, I think a PL of 120,000 for Yamcha may be a bit too high by the time of the Android/Cell-saga, given that Krillin's PL was only 75,000 at the end of the Namek-saga, and he'd already had his dormant power unlocked by Guru-- this is important because Krillin would have logically been well beyond Yamcha at that point in time(King Kai's training be damned.) However, there was a 4 year hiatus between sagas, in which all of the Z fighters spent continuously training, so I guess anything is possible... Especially in Akira's world.

Gohan got his "full potential" unlocked too and that wasn't exactly super material. I would wager gravity training gives a bigger boost.
I'm not saying that Yamcha wasn't above the 40,000-45,000 mark as of the Namek-saga(which puts him above Burter/Jeice/Recoome), but I believe Krillin(PL=75,000) was still well beyond him at the time. That's why Yamcha having a PL of 120,000 by the Android-saga just seems like too much of an increase... Especially for a human.
But like I said: it *might* still be in the realm of possibility for him to have become that powerful, considering he had 4 solid years to train. /shrug
