Yes, Solaris is a combat feat and yes, it's better than the Hulk. Really, nobody should be putting in any effort defending Superman here from the trolls.

He's from the DC 1 Million storyline, though he also made an appearance in All-Star Superman briefly. Basically, regular Earth-Prime Superman spends thousands of years fighting all manners of Gods and bad guys on the fringes of space after he leaves Earth. The Source gives him some ambiguous powerup during that time.
Eventually he returns to Earth (Sol, specifically), where he then spends tens of thousands of years in the sun. During that time, his power fuels the Superman Dynasty. When he emerges, he's all golden like that.
