Possibly. Seems to me that at any rate, Touta is pulling off feats that any other shonen MC starting out might not have been able to do in such a handful of chapters.

New opponent in this chapter. Supposedly he's as tough as Negi; the thunder magic doesn't surprise me.

One thing I love about Akamatsu is he doesn't mess around with pacing.

Markness: yeah, though I've been trying to think of threads to hopefully change that a bit. It's just a damn shame that it's hard to gauge what other mangas/animes that others know of and read.

And possibly on par with Negi himself, if only in terms of sheer strength and speed. Wonder how they'll get around this thing.

Q99: agreed. Another thing that fans have to love Akamatsu for is the foreshadowing/callbacks that he does; seriously, the spirit that Touta and co. have to go up against now was referenced by Rakan way back in about ch. 340 or something of Negima.

He and Nakaba Suzuki are similar in that regard. They go exactly the speed limit instead of going way below it or way above it.

I know, right? The new Ushio and Tora anime is bad ass but no one seems to notice it.

That spirit is like Emerald or Ruby WEAPON from FF VII. If you go in unprepared, you get KO'ed in one shot.

Mhm. And since it's a lightning spirit, it's supposed to have logia-like abilities, so they probably won't be able to hurt it with conventional attacks too.

Yep and currently they have nothing in their arsenal that can possibly hurt it in any significant way.

Maybe they should try and not fight the lightning spirit an look for the "codex". Then again if its like Negi's form it probably moves at lightning speed.

Yeah, he gave off the impression being animalistic when it didn't speak at first. Also, the fact it can attack without incantations makes me wonder if Akamatsu's a fan of Bastard!! since the high tiers don't require incantations for their spells as well as the fact Touta and Negi look like mini-Majin Dark Schneiders in their Magia Erebea forms.

Yep, though given its precise attacks initially, it was hinted at from the get-go that he wasn't animalistic. Possibly, though we can't be sure of that.

Well its obviously Eva's teenage dark lord phase. Though she did spend well over two centuries w/o any seemingly positive interactions.
