Krayt likely had more, due to the expansion in the following centuries.

There was a large region of expansion after the GE's fall. Most of them would be low-pop marginal worlds, but in quantity? The Krayt Empire likely had more.

Yet for 20 long years not a single system slipped through Sidious' grasp, Krayt had to conquer systems one by one like the Golden Age Sith, and most likely never formed a society as large as Sidious' New Order merely through strength of might.

Sidious binded all the systems in the galaxy together by engineering a war larger than any before, and any after, including the one Krayt raged. The New Republic was a morsel compared the Empire - couldn't even attempt to defend against the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion or Krayt, but if the Empire had reigned in those eras it would have smashed the Yuuzhan Vong and the One Sith as an afterthought.

Sure, due to being way more advanced. Doesn't make them not a galactic empire.

The Annihilator fighters would make swift work of any fleet or force Palpatine sent against the Krayt Empire. Total fleet size isn't everything.

This is a galaxy where every civilization has different tech that has evolved at variable rates. The Gree had better tech than the Galactic Empire or the Rakatans, thousands of years later Krayt's tech never had the capability of the Kwa to teleport using the Infinite Star Gates - yet hyperdrives were just as efficient - again being further along in continuity =/= being more advanced technologically. Krayt lacked the resources to match Sidious' Imp-II Class Star Destroyers, much less the Super Star Destroyers, not to mention his forces paled in quantity.

Anyway, long story short, Palpatine wasn't the only Galactic Empire.

His was the greatest, and easily lasted the longest.

How many times? No Galen did not bring a Star Destroyer down himself. It was already falling out of orbit; he just re-directed it.

Which means he was able to grasp a gazillion ton spacecraft larger than any skyscraper on earth in the real galaxy and alter its descent from orbit. Something that heavy falling from orbit is basically an asteroid, moving at great speed.

It looks to me like it hurt him a bit, although I admit he recovers within seconds at most.

Well I mean, he withstood Windu's deflection of far more powerful Force lightning, that should be a better feat in itself, but this just implies the extent of his powers in the Force.

Once the superweapons were crushed and Sidious could no longer lead (after engineered the Empire so that no one but him could successfully keep it together) - Thrawn proved hapless in maintaining Sidious' level of organization.

Like Rome, the real human city that it was based on, the Empire fell apart from within. The Emperor was never challenged through strength of arms. His struggle was over a more political form of control.

And he did it with the help of a massive horde of bureaucrats, administrators, governors, and advisers. Conjure up an emperor who does it all by his onesy and then I'll be impressed.

That could have been Anakin:

Coulda woulda shoulda.

Sidious planned on conquering other galaxies by force after stabilizing his Empire abroad, although he would need to remain on his galactic thrown while sending his Executor, perhaps Luke Skywalker, to conquer lest his Empire crumple in his absence, as only he could control it.

This information comes from the DE Sourcebook which elaborates on the Emperor's long-term plans, which would come to fruition if he could fully enslave the Skywalker family and use their children as Force-strong hosts.

Incidentally, DE was awful.

Except for Mon Cal/Dac and other rebel systems.

He got most of them in fairly short order. In 130, the Alliance *surrendered* and Fel went into exile. It actually took awhile for Fel to muster the forces to take back a major world.

Yes, Krayt did have more opposition. I'm not saying Palpatine wasn't the most successful- he was.

But Krayt was still clearly a Galactic Emperor who ruled the vast majority of the galaxy.

Yes! At the time it came out the general reaction was, "Cool, new star wars comic!". But years later, and with many better new SW stories to compare it to? "This is pretty crap...."

Superweapon of the week (*four* new superweapons!), over-the-top force powers, revivals of old villains rather than coming up with new, etc..

Wait the Emperor planned to expand to other galaxies...wow.

I think that's probably been retconned- his sabotage of the Outbound Flight project indicates he didn't want the galaxy looking outward.

Though it could be referring to the nearby satellite galaxies of the main galaxy. Those have known species that sometimes show up in the main, after all.

The Republic didn't include all known galaxies at the time, and neither did the Empire although the latter had expanded quite a bit.
