Dovahkiin vs Jagar Tharn

Dovahkiin finds out Jagar Tharn has been resurrected and has the Staff of Chaos at his side, after promptly killing the unnamed archmage that resurrected him, Jagar Tharn takes up Solitude (See what I did there?) within the Labyrinthian, and Dovahkiin has to venture there to find and try to defeat him.

This is after Dovahkiin has defeated Alduin, by the way.

Dovahkiin has no followers to back him up.

Who takes this?

Dovah takes this. In fact he can blast Tharn to pieces upon seeing him. However, the Staff of Chaos dimensional bumping will prove to be a problem.

Endgame Dragonborn has some fearsome powers and access to some really powerful magic-busting artifacts. Stuff like the Staff of Magnus and Spellbreaker would ruin most of Tharn's ability to fight.

And then, there is the Alduin wrecking power of the Thu'um...

Think: Staff of Chaos.

What feats does the Staff of Chaos have in combat? We've seen that it can banish someone to Oblivion really. What's the prep time on that? Dovahkiin could thu'um Tharn into pieces in as much time as it takes to expel breath.

Plus the Dragonborn has (at that point of time) gained control over the Staff of Magnus.

He didn't banish them, he KILLED them, one shot, and the Staff of Chaos has Dimensional-Bumping capabilities. If Tharn gets a chance to use that staff, Dovahkiin dies.

No, he banished them to Oblivion, bro.
The Staff of Chaos (also known as the Balac-thurm) is a highly powerful, magical artifact that was fashioned in the early First Era by Loreth. The staff was deemed too powerful and was hidden in the catacombs beneath the city of Mournhold. Jagar Tharn (Imperial Battlemage to Emperor Uriel Septim VII) disguised himself and tricked the Dunmer Queen Barenziah into helping him to retrieve the Staff of Chaos for him.

Tharn used the staff to transport Uriel Septim VII and his personal guard to a plane of Oblivion, then used a spell to make him look like Uriel Septim, next broke the Staff of Chaos into eight pieces and hid the pieces all around Tamriel. The Eternal Champion had to go and collect all eight pieces and use the staff on Tharn to defeat him and bring back the Emperor and his personal guard and end the Imperial Simulacrum.
I was talking about his apprentice that he killed, not Uriel Septim VII.

What were the details? Also, keep in mind you're arguing a nebulous artifact item in the possession of a mage of unquantified power versus a walking demigod with instant death thu'ums. Just saying.

True, but Tharn
was a master of illusions, he convinced everyone that he was Uriel Septim VII. If he can trick Dovahkiin into thinking that he's the Jarl of Whiterun or something, possibly Lydia, or some other follower that Dovahkiin trusts.

The Dragonborn is sonic in speed with some Thu'um. I doubt Tharn can use the Staff of Chaos in such short span of time. Tharn cannot withstand island busters, Tharn can't resist mindrape in the level of Bend Will, hell Tharn isn't resistant or has any way to counteract time ****ery.

And remember, the Thu'um is sound, it moves at sonic speeds. Good look dodging, Battlemage.

Plus Tharn's illusion was a product of the staff in the first place, not a product of his own personal power.

Tharn's illusions were part of his personal magical prowess. The Staff of Chaos gave him the power to banish things to Oblivion, though.

Hrm, I reread the text, you are correct. However, that's just illusion spell. What he IS an imperial battlemage, and is a formidable foe, top tier Dovahkiin is just too OP.

So much that this would be spite if the Staff of Chaos wasn't included. A nice rival for Jagar Tharn would be Hannibal Traven, he could not get the edge over anybody above him.
