The double standard exists, and is obvious (As I may have mentioned years ago, a lawyer went on record saying not only did he believe such a double standard existed, but that it SHOULD exist).

Personally, I think this reveals a bit about attitudes towards males in general. I'm not going to play armchair psychologist, but I will say even at a very very young age, people start judging male kids.. Are they into sports? Do they seem slow on the uptake? Can they talk to girls?

This happens insanely young, at least based on all the families I'm famaliar with. A guy I know almost had a nervious breakdown because his kid isn't good at ice hockey, while the other kids picked it up fine..

So yeah, a boy that needs protection from sex simply doesn't compute for most people. If he isn't into that hot teacher, wtf is wrong with him?

I agree with this. I've never known a woman act like an adult ever. They just aren't and the phrase "women and children" is appropriate. Don't expect a woman to use that logic when it's inconvenient to them though.
