Auto subscribing

is there any way i can automatically subscribe to a topic when i reply to it? so i can get private messages when someone posts a reply to the topic. i checked the box that said to send email notifications when someone replies but i've been replied to and it didn't show up in my email.

There a "Subscribe to this Thread" option at the bottom left of the page.
