Al Ewing made it pretty apparent in Mighty Avengers # 3 (great issue btw). I think you misunderstand Carver, he was probably just trying to say that regardless of that fact, it was still impressive.
You are giving him to much credit he has a long history of taking things out of context and leaving out details
