Spoiler:
firemen. hidey bastards.
I finished the main story and it was wonderful. I think it's the best story of the series! I loved the Batmobile but it was a little excessive. The very ending of the game...well honestly im not so sure what to think. Easily a 9 out of 10. I still have a ton of side missions left but I like to continue doing Batman things after the story lol
Those firemen were a pain in the ass to locate. I had to resort to a YouTube video to find the last two. Same with the road bombs. I couldn't find the very last one, so I used the Internet.
Spoiler:
Professor Pyg was a surprise to see in the game, since he's a throwaway character, IMO.
The only reason I give this game a 9.0 and not a perfect 10 is because of the Batmobile. It's a great addition to the game and is fun to drive, but the controls are too sloppy and is maddeningly hard at times while chasing down militia cars to capture lieutenants. The tank combat is fun, but very repetitive, IMO. How many goddamn drones are there?!
I beat the game. It was a great end to Batman. I haven't seen the true ending yet though, since I still have 3 side missions left.
I liked Arkham City a ton better tbh.
Spoiler:
This game was well done, but there was a lot of repetition. Two face was bank heist after bank heist, Penguin was the same tail/blow up the arms vault mission over and over again, manbat was the same random encounter that you tackle out of the sky, Pyg was all randomly finding a body to do the same forensics scan, Azrael is just fight arena after fight arena, the road bombs are all the same, the checkpoints are all the same, (etc...).What I'm trying to say is, they got lazy with the side missions. They made one mission a ton of times for every one. Arkham City had unique encounters for everyone, from the Hatter, to Deadshot. Even Arkham origins knew to switch things up. Batman has a rich rogues gallery, and they all got reduced to repetitive side missions. They could have all been so much more. I wish they somehow actually factored in Two-faces coin toss into gameplay somehow. Thats his entire gimmick.
The Batmobile tank fighting sections were terrible. Especially towards the end.
All of Batmans sidekicks got taken hostage at some point or another. It was pathetic. Nightwing was the worst. He got captured by the Penguin of all people. How the hell is he surviving in Bludhaven? They should all be fully capable enough to handle themselves.
Oracles death only to have it turn out to be a figment of Bats fear-induced imagination was a cop out. We already had this scenario with Commissioner Gordon in the first game (I also felt that Gordon also got the short end of the stick character wise this time around).
Red Hood also never came across as the threat he made himself out to be. Him just randomly changing his mind at the end and saving Batman was also a lame turn around. The dude dedicated everything to murdering him, and then just turned around a came back to save him? It would have made more sense if it was Nightwing showing up for the save. That was actually what I was expecting.
Batman overcoming Jokers cureless infection and Cranes toxin by strength of will was the lamest solution ever. This bothered me more than anything.
No one really got the respect or time they deserved with the exception of Bats, Joker, and Scarecrow.
This game was a step down from City in terms of story, mission design, and overall execution. The gameplay was both a step down and a step up. Controls are tighter, but the 1000+ drones I've had to kill and all the mission repetition make that null.
Overall, I don't think this game deserves a 9/10. I'd give it a 7/10. For reference, I consider Arkham City a 10/10. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer guys.
Just saw the true ending.
Spoiler:
I ended up just looking it up. I cant take any more repetition, so I'm probably going to sell the game now. That said, it had a good ending. The Knightfall protocol is Bats returning home, and detonating the manor with himself inside effectively committing suicide to keep everyone he knows and loves safe. After that, Azrael (I'm assuming he escaped/returned) shows up as the new Batman protecting the city after Bruce's death. That or Bats faked his own death and continued to be the Batman fulltime.
Complete every side mission, including all Riddler trophy challenges, to unlock the true ending.
If you beat the game without all challenges completed, you'll still be able to play to complete all of them. When the last villain is locked up at GCPD, Batman will call Alfred to initiate the Knightfall Protocol and then the true ending will be shown.
