It may not change much in the short term, but it could have huge implications in the long run, some of them potentially troublesome.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

What are the implications in the long run?

Well, the implications in the long run is that a private organization will now run the internet, an organization with close business ties to a corporation that sells domain names. So, as if that's possible, the internet will become even more monetized.

Yaaayyy!!!!! Less government! Ron Paul! Ron Paul!

EA will buy the internet and make everything pay to play.

Just wait till they install chips into our brains and Microsoft institutes an "always online" policy for humans.

Making Philip K. Dick and Isaac Asimov roll in their graves.

Those revisionists!

I love the lengths that petty dictators go to control the media. It's kind of adorable, in a freakishly evil and sociopathic way.

That is the part that concerns me, that it might become easier for foreign dictatorships to influence the internet.

I know, I know, the next post is going to be "as opposed to a domestic dictatorship?"

Haha.

Jokes aside, I'd rather have the government know that I'm looking up porn and parse my conversations for mentions of bombs and Islamism than have everything blocked out and censored.

The President of Turkmenistan had a gold statue built of himself on a mechanical dais designed to rotate so that throughout the day the statue's always facing the sun.

He's one eyepatch away from a Bond Villain.
