Ar-Pharazon's Great Armament

If Manwe had not called forth Eru's wrath upon the Numenorean Armada, could the forces Ar-Pharazon raised truly compete with a sort of 'second' Host of the Valar, or would the powers of the Valar totally obliterate the Numenoreans no matter how large or powerful a military force they had become?

Overconfident shows of force don't make you powerful. I don't see how anything the mortal Numenoreans had could be capable of taking on the demi-gods and elves that cracked a landmass and obliterated the forces of pure evil. I mean the Numenoreans were powerful and capable, but Jesus, not that capable.
