What you are suggesting that if Byrne Superman showed up in the DCU after Infinite Crisis, even J'onn would be able to beat him in strength. Comics don't work that way.

Martian Manhunter also cold-cocked a guy who plays with planets the way you play with your balls (Superboy Prime) and managed to briefly hold him off.

And yes, briefly holding off Superboy Prime is better than being KO'd by gas stations.
