The 'new' approach to canon is almost exactly the same as the old one, just with different names, fewer levels, and now you don't need to be a movie to be the highest level of canon.

Actually, DE Sidious is much stronger than RotS Sidous, and I could care less if Sidous is canonically the bee's knees since according to GL, that was always the case. This just means those sweeping generalizations now have proper context.
