I watched Skill Up's (I respect his opinions) and he did a video regarding the Rock, Paper Shotgun and his response. Basically,
- writing and voice acting are good to quite good.
- combat is some of the best he has seen.
- sidequests have some filler aspect to it but no different than other games filler side quests
- criticisms of UI and planet scanning are sound. He did say though that it didn't bother him because UI's in games are generally quite bad (Skyrim and Witcher 3 as ex.) but it doesn't really affect his enjoyment.
- planet scanning was not fun and worst than previous games due to loading.
Overall, he thought it was a fun 20 hours and looking to be a great game. However, he says it doesn't feel as memorable as the opening hours of the original trilogy but that could be the case of selective memories we have of the original trilogy.
It did.
But sometimes a game (or other media) gets under your skin.
Jimquisition gave Zelda: BoTW a 7.5 and during the review mentions of a few things that would annoy the **** out of me. For some reviewers, it was a non-starter but for him, it was annoying as **** and ruined some of the enjoyment of the game.
This seems like the cases with RPS.
Originally posted by SmasandianNo, he means in general, which is definitely right. Avoiding preordering games is good practice these days. Too many hyped disappointments.
It's funny. He's telling us that we shouldn't of pre-order the game based on one person pre-review impressions.
That said, I couldn't resist here. lol
I dunno, I feel like while, sure, preordering a random game you might want is pretty foolish, doing it for a game from a developer with a pedigree that you really enjoy, and that you are actively excited about is perfectly reasonable. I don't preorder many games, but I've never been burned by the few that I have.
Plus, for Mass Effect, if you have EA access or whatever it's called you can try ME:A for 10 hours without purchasing it starting tonight. I'm going to take advantage of that and start it tonight. Will post some thoughts here later.
I used to feel like that with trusted developers. Then both Konami (trusted before they completely screwed the pooch with both MGSV and Silent Hills; SH is my all time favorite franchise if you cant tell) and Square released Deus Ex: MD and MGSV half finished. Neither lived up to the previous games, and these are two of my most hyped titles of next gen. Both Human Revolution and MGS4 are in my top 5 favorite games. After going through it with games I thought would honestly be 10/10s, I cant bring myself to not have apprehension with other big titles I'd be otherwise pretty hyped for.
I also went back and played the first Dragon Age, which was an amazing game. If I played it back in the day, it would likely be top 5 material to me too. Inquisition was nowhere near as good, and I played it first. Fallout 4 was also a shell of past Bethesda titles. There's been a pattern this gen.
EDIT: The 10 hours thing is a good compromise though. Even if it prevents you from leaving the first world and is mainly for multiplayer which has no restrictions. Still, it should give you an idea of the full game.
Yeah, I just very rarely preorder games. I think the only game I preordered this generation was Witcher 3, and that was like 2 days before release so I could preload it and play it immediately. I preordered ME:A a couple weeks ago after seeing quite a few gameplay videos which made me feel confident that I would like it.
I still do do it sometimes with trusted developers.
I just don't trust Bioware nearly as much as some of these fudge-packers do apparently.
I have consistently been pretty good at figuring out which games I'd like enough to pre-order them. Andromeda's pre-release marketing has not endeared me enough to the game.

To be fair, those faces haven't even been edited by the player yet. I've seen some decent Fem Ryders over on YouTube like this one:

Maybe.
What bothers me most about the game is that I've seen very little talking about the story or the general RPG experience. They talk about exploration and about the combat, but I've seen little about how much influence we as players will have.
Unless I missed stuff; in that case, fair enough.
