But holy ****ing shit did this game miss the opportunity to give you a Batarian squadmate. That would have been so ****ing cool and would have written itself, but **** no the only new squadmates are EDI, Chad Thundercock, and Prothy the Prothean. All of these characters are excellent, but a former member of the Batarian Hegemony and a veteran of the Skyllian Blitz would have given Shepard a squadmate who, unlike other squadmates, would have very intense personal reasons to dislike Shepard, but be forced to work with him/her because they're the best hope against the Reapers. Shitsux **** this game Bioware is full of hacks.

Agreed. ME3 had some amazing moments. People just b*tch about the ending, which is understandable, but not enough to ruin the ride. ME3 had some of my favorite moments in the entire series. You've got some great chit ahead of you

Mass Effect 3 was fantastic all the way until the last 10 minutes.

I agree.

ME3 was exactly the way I wanted it to be. I wanted to be in battles with Reapers flying overhead (the previous two games did not have Reapers within battles) and I felt the missions and story to hit the right notes. And I like how they brought back the RPG elements from the first game without being overbearing (I felt ME weapon system to be annoying after spending hours equipping squadmates).

I liked it better than ME2.

I really like this idea.

I kinda wish you had more of the members of the secondary races as squad members more often overall. Like, I remember when Andromeda was announced I was hoping for a Volus squadmate, or maybe an Elcor. I really like both races but they haven't really been fully explored yet, a Batarian in ME3 would have been really good and really fitting.

A Volus? There are enough biotic gods on the team already; don't want to make it too easy.

The worst part is that a future game can't just give us a Batarian squadmate and say "okay there now we're good".

Mass Effect 3 was THE game to do it. It would have been the PERFECT opportunity to have one, but Bioware just didn't see the ****ing potential I guess. Just thinking about it fills me with nerdrage holy shit.

On another note, I would really like a vorcha squadmate. I like the vorcha.

RIP Mass Effect?

Apparently the negative reception for Mass Effect: Andromeda translated into net negative sales, because it appears as if the future for Mass Effect as a property doesn't look good and neither does the future of BioWare.

According to a report from Kotaku, multiple sources have confirmed to them that development on all things Mass Effect have been brought to cessation, and the BioWare Montreal studio who developed Mass Effect: Andromeda are being moved on to other projects, including helping Motive with the story mode on the highly anticipated and upcoming release of Star Wars: Battlefront II.

The rest of the Montreal team is reportedly being used to help the main BioWare studio work on Dylan, the secret upcoming action-adventure game that is apparently not an RPG. Dylan is said to be a game designed to compete with The Division and Destiny 2. They expect the game to be announced at this year's E3 during the EA Play press conference.

So what does this all mean for the Mass Effect series? Well, apparently EA has it on hiatus for now. And apparently, this means no more DLC for Mass Effect: Andromeda for the foreseeable future.

A lot of gamers were curious if this meant that they wouldn't receive new multiplayer content for Andromeda? The post on Kotaku doesn't really say what's to become of the game's multiplayer, but apparently, just enough of BioWare Montreal will stay attached to the project to continue to issue patches to fix the more troubling aspects of the game.

They did recently release patch 1.06 in order to address more of the animation problems in Mass Effect: Andromeda, along with fixing up some of the cinematics and making a lot of other changes in the improvement of the gameplay and playability, as well as the performance of the game.

EA had praised Mass Effect: Andromeda during the earnings call for their Q4 2017 results, saying that BioWare had really done a great job with the game. However, during that same earnings call the CEO, Andrew Wilson, also announced that they would be delaying BioWare's other project, codenamed Dylan. Wilson explained that the delay for Wilson had nothing to do with the criticisms and feedback for Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The game may have received some middling scores from game reviewers, but a large majority of gamers gave it pretty harsh scores in the user review section on Metacritic for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions of the game.

At this point, it appears as if Mass Effect as a series will lay dormant for a while as EA figures out how to approach the brand again after letting it simmer down for a while. Some fans were a bit disappointed because Mass Effect: Andromeda ended on a cliffhanger and they were hoping that a sequel would be in the works. It doesn't appear as if that will be happening anytime soon.

I do wonder if EA does decide to return to Mass Effect in the coming years if they will pick up where Andromeda left off or if they will try their hand at an all-new story?

Good. 👆

Say what everyone will about goofy graphics, it was Andromeda not following the original Bioware formula that's been in over six of their RPGs that ultimately led the game to it's ruin IMO. Don't fix what isn't broken.

TBH, a major part of the appeal of Mass Effect (to me any ways) was the characters, for the most part I spent most of the game thinking it would have been way better with Shepherd and the old crew.

I can't agree with this. Plus the Bioware formula has grown very stale. They needed to change things up. The problem is what they ended up creating was a whole lot worse.

And definitely agreed. I've never had to force myself to play a Mass Effect game. Dear god, everything is just so BORING. The characters, the worlds, the enemies, the story, (etc...). It was all such a massive step down. At least this will force them to take some time and take a real look at what made the series so damn good. Who knows? Maybe the original team will come back someday and decide they want to continue instead of leaving the series off with this.

I cry every time I come to this thread

I really hope they do make Andromeda 2 at some point. One of the most successful things Andromeda does is lay the groundwork for future narrative threads and stories. It'd be a shame if those many interesting threads got dropped just because Andromeda had flaws. It's not as if the flaws are unfixable - better animations, fewer bugs, scale back the open world stuff in favor of more linear, traditional Mass Effect style quests, and more focused story and you'd have the ingredients for a very solid sequel.

It's almost like they did that with the original trilogy when they decided to move the focus to the Andromeda galaxy, huh? mmm

Nah

Might be sooner than you think, the way things are going.

Well as long as Dragon Age is still profitable, it probably won't. At least the guys in charge of that franchise will take notes from this.

It's true, they did. I said from the start that I would rather them keep telling stories in the Milky way as there were a lot of great potential for stories still unexplored in the Milky way. It was understandable why they'd not want to deal with the many variables that they'd have to take into account because of ME3's ending, and other choices in the game, though. Maybe since Andromeda's future seems dim they'll move focus back to the Milky way.

Dragon Age can still exist without Bioware. It's up to EA how they want to do things.
