That's not the only possible outcome of scientific progress. But paranoia is a helluva drug.

Tell that to the billions of people living longer lives, not dying from allergies, disease, malnutrition, and boredom over the past century or so, from your scientifically made computer. Then pull your head out of your ass.

Allergies, disease and malnutrition are still a major factor in third world countries, specifically in Africa and South Asia. Just saying.

IMO, Dolos should just pop one in his noggin and get it over with.

i get what your saying i read your earlier response wrong.. and i get the progress.. but that progress comes from our failures as a Capitalism society...

True and that was on my mind. But ultimately that's related not to teh evul science so much as social issues already present along with factors such as low literacy rates, high government corruption, civil warfare/terrorism, and religious extremism.

Capitalism has issues, but scientific progress isn't one of them. They shouldn't be treated as dependent on each other.

The unsupported conflation in this thread hurts my brain.

Tax money that should go to research ends up in the pockets of private investors.

But it is. There is no research without money to fund it.

For example. The US could easily break its dependence on foreign oil. By stop making cars that run on gas but they wnt. Because they dnt wanna pay for change that will benefit everything and everyone.

Yeah, tax money is horribly misspent. No surprise there. But how is your point relevant to my own?

1. Even communist countries have currency. WTF is the point of acknowledging that money funds research? You're being obtuse.

2. If you think the American infrastructure and economy could survive a rapid change in deliveries, transportation, and spending money/stocks, you're clearly high.

Because a socialist government would make sure that the money invested in research is actually spent on research. So yes, capitalism does hinder research.

The point he was making is that capitalists don't want to spend more money than they have to on research.

I think he has a better understanding of the American economy than you do. These ****-ups should be payed for by the ones making the investments, not by the tax payers.

No, you're being a moron. His initial point was this:

And he subsequently released this gem:

So his string of logic is a bit tangled and in some places clearly tied together with different colored string.

As for you, the whole "socialist countries would do it right" is ****ing stupid for two reasons:

1. Responsible socialist countries, like those that use the Nordic model, have capitalist elements. They are not as extremely capitalist as say, the US, but they kind of like profit, money, and so on.

2. Other questionably socialist countries like the former USSR, Cuba and China couldn't manage a fruit stand without military posturing and casualties.

So yeah, way to miss the point again in a vain attempt to feel superior.

It doesn't matter what his initial point was because that wasn't what you referenced in the quotation.

Which once again is an ad hominem with no relevance to the segment you're citing.

If you have an issue with the overall structure of his presentation then bring it up. But don't quote one point, and when you're proven wrong point to other points he has made.

Socialism has a free market, the difference is that the free market is restricted to certain sectors.

Capitalism, in its purest form, means that the police won't help you out if you can't afford it.

Those were/are communist, not socialist.

Then again you've been using communism and socialism interchangeably so I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know the difference.

Miss the point? I'm the only one who's been on point throughout this entire thread.
