How do you figure? S4 Maul, who hadn't been training and actually went insane, was able to press Obi-Wan.

He nearly killed savage 2 times in that dual.

I'm sorry, but Savage is not a duelist. If it weren't for his Force power, he'd have died earlier in TCW. His only saving grace is the power behind his attacks, but he seems to be more of a liability than anything in a saber fight. Both Dooku and Ventress notice it.
