Worried about my friend.

Worried about my friend.

I'm a little worried about a friend of mine. He's 30 and didn't go to college, and he still lives at home. I suggested that he go to a vocational school, but he still says no. I want him to be a success in life. How do I convince him?

Maybe he doesn't want to be a success in life. Maybe he just wants to chill.

Sounds like you're telling him what he already knows.

If he doesn't want to go to school (vocational or otherwise), he won't go to school. There's nothing you can do about it. Actually, pushing him to go to school may actually push him further away from the idea.

You can tell him positive things such as, "You're really good with new software. Did you ever consider going into Tech Support? You can make $40k-$90k a year in low-level tech support if you have the credentials."

Is this friend really you?

I've never gone to college, so?

He means any higher education, including university. Basically he is saying his friend only has up to high school level (secondary education).

At any rate, you don't give enough information, VG_Addict. Does your friend work? What does he want to do? Has he plans for the future?

Nobody listens to short people, so if you grew a feet or two he'd probably be easier to persuade.

He's 31. He tells me he's looking for a job. He said he wants to be a janitor at his local movie theater.

Then let him be that? 🙂

And what would you like him to be? Perhaps he would be happy in that position, isn't his happiness important?

May I ask what you do currently and what you have planned for yourself in the future?

Just curious....is this person a friend or a friend? I only ask because ultimately, it should be his happiness that matters and if sweeping popcorn and walking on sticky floors is what will make him happy, then so be it.

I don't think he's taking the right path in life.

I want him to be a success.

................why is it so important your friend is a success?

I don't know. I just worry about him.

Are you "a success" ? 🤨 If he wants to be a janitor, it's his life.

See, like, I explained the misunderstanding in my post, you two could just have read that. And perhaps next time realize that neither the US American nor the Polish experience is universal.
