It seems almost irrelevant to talk about the director (Scott Derrickson) and his spotty track record. That's how high our confidence is in Marvel Studios, that they know how to get the right talent for the right project. Plus, they have Benedict Cumberbatch. That says how full of win the movie already is.
Peyton Reed had a spotty record before Antman, liar liar was boring and shitty. Jon Favrea wasn't known as a director before Iron Man. Joss Whedon was more of a cult figure on low budget television before Avengers. The Russo Brothers were most notable for Community before Captain America.
It's more about talent and vision then about record.
