National Honesty DayDate When Celebrated : Always April 30 th
National Honesty Day encourages us to be honest today, and everyday. We honestly believe you try your best to be honest.
Honesty is a great virtue. If we want people to believe us when its important, then we need to be open and honest all of the time. We all know about the boy who cried wolf. When a wolf actually appeared, no one believed him.
Celebrate National Honesty Day in a completely open and honest way.
To be totally honest, there are few rules for this special day......just be honest.
Origin of "National Honesty Day":
M. Hirsh Goldberg, former press secretary to a governor of Maryland and author of five books, created National Honesty Day in the early 1990s after spending four years researching and writing The Book of Lies (Morrow). This book has been translated into Japanese, Korean and Chinese.Goldberg created this day, because he felt that the month of April, which begins with a big day of lying (April Fools Day), should end on a higher moral note.
This is referred to as a "National" day. However, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.
Save The Rhino DayDate When Celebrated: Always on May 1
Q: What animal has roamed the earth for over a million years, and has been hunted to near extinction?
A: You guessed it, the Rhinoceros.
Save the Rhino Day encourages us to be aware of, and support efforts to save the Rhinoceros from extinction.
The Rhinoceros is a fascinating creature. Native to Africa, this leftover from the age of Dinosaurs was hunted to near extinction. Hunters on safaris, killed Rhinos just for sport. Poachers hunted them for their horn. The horn has been used as medicine, and for making knife handles, carved statues, and other objects. Animal rights groups have helped to save this animal from extinction, and their numbers have rebounded somewhat.
Did you know? The horn of the Rhinoceros is composed of the same material as your fingernail.
You can enjoy Save the Rhino Day in a variety of ways. Watch documentaries on the Rhinoceros. Visit Rhinos at a zoo. Better still, go on a safari to see one! You can also donate to groups working towards preserving the Rhinoceros.
Brothers and Sisters DayDate When Celebrated: Always on May 2
Brothers and Sisters Day is a day to cherish your siblings. Sure, there are times when you love your brothers and sisters. And, there's times when you want to disown them. All in all, having a brother and/or a sister or two, is invaluable. The older you get, the more you learn to appreciate them.
Celebrate Brothers and Sisters Day by touching them in some way. A card or a phone call is appropriate for those who are separated by too many miles. A visit, or sharing a meal together, is a great way to enjoy this special day.
Don't have a brother or sister? Become a "Big Brother" or Big Sister". Chances are, there is an organization in your area. And, they need your help.
Brothers and Sisters Day is similar to National Sibling Day, held on April 10th.
Lumpy Rug DayDate When Celebrated: Always on May 3
Lumpy Rug Day is intended to appreciate a good rug. A rug should be smooth, even, and definitely not lumpy. Many of us stretch out on a rug to watch Tv, play games, and even catch 40 winks. If the rug is lumpy, you'll know it.
There are a number of ways to enjoy Lumpy Rug Day:
If you have a lumpy rug, toss it out and get a nice, lump-less rug.
If you once had a lumpy rug, take a minute to remember the soft, comfortable feel of the new rug when it arrived.
If you never had a lumpy rug, count your blessings. You don't know what you're missing.
