Cause Vanne Damme couldn't even defeat him on his own. He was the most powerful warrior in the film, the archetype of his character is the premiere warrior, can't be defeated one on one.

You can apply that archetype to the protagonist, IE Riddick and Achilles. If you have an Emperor, this archetype is the first to defy said Emperor.
