Black Plague in Madagascar

YouTube video

The Black Plague is spreading throughout the northern part of Madagascar. Do you guys think this will be the next epidemic?

No. Like leprosy, the bubonic plague is very easy to contain and stop with modern medicine and a good medical infrastructure. Also, the Black Plague never died out, so calling this the 'return' isn't accurate.

Every once in a while there's a case of bubonic plague in America, usually found in foreign tourists or immigrants or Americans who've just visited regions with poor sanitation. So far none of those cases have resulted in major infections.

Unless you're living with rats up to your ankles you have little to fear from the bubonic plague.

Unfortunately, because of the ebola crisis I doubt Madagascar will get the help it needs.

We can only hope that this is not the case. Hopefully the US government will step up if this really becomes a crisis situation.
