I guess Malgus is similar enough to Anakin Skywalker to pull it off. Makashi doesn't do as well against power duelists who just beat on you.

It does just fine against Power duelists. As Dooku proved against Skywalker on Oba Diah and against Windu in several occasions.

Problem for the Count is that Malgus can tank exceptional levels of damage before he goes down. But as soon as Anakin drove Dooku's saber into his shoulder then Dooku was as good as dead.
Dooku dishes considerable damage but Malgus still kills him anyway.
