Which Villain has the best backstory?

Started by Insane Titan2 pages

Though not strictly a villain , Galactus

Thanos. Reread "Rebirth." Cool ending.

Cyclops

Lots of good choices so far. I've always liked Hank Henshaw's story. It begins as a tragic reinterpretation of the Fantastic Four's origin, and then gets a hell of a lot darker, and his motivations (wanting to die to be with his wife but being unable to) are interesting. He's a complete bastard, but he's extremely sympathetic. I also like Mr. Freeze for similar reasons (his criminality being caused by his desperation to save his wife at any cost) and, as mentioned before, Magneto. I think I've always liked villains where they might do evil things but there's a degree of justification behind their actions, even if they go to far.

Lobo's from The last Czarnian.

Not the overall best, but I really like his backstory

Pain Tolerance
---------------------------------------------
Alpha Flight #96 (Vol.1):
Out of everyone in the marvel universe, the Master properly has experienced the most pain out of everyone. Here he outlines the tortures he underwent for 40,000 years as well as the pain his new body was undergoing transforming.

His bones were ground to paste—one bone at a time, one millimeter at a time over the course of months. His blood was intermingled with a variety of liquids to see the effects it would have on his circulatory system, such as tar. His eyelids were turned inside out, his eyes popped out of his sockets like escargots. His tongue was subjected to taste impressions across the analytical spectrum. His skin was pulled off and stretched out, sewn back on, cauterized, liquefied and forced to bear the sensation of needles pricking at its surface, fire at its core. All but his brain was not studied and became incorporated being absorbed into the greater functions of the ship, becoming at first a tiny extension of the computer matrix. However, his will was strong, his sense of self indomitable, it took 30,000 but he purged himself of madness and took control of the ship. His brain came to control the unliving machines around it, and were able to command them to reconstruct his mortal form, but a perfect form this time.

Good pick Mungi.

I pick Doom of course.

Doomsday has an interesting backstory, certainly one of the most tragic.

Indeed and Jake further revealed to the world the truth of The Incredible Carter.

Loki...

So here's a guy who's father hid him from other frost giants out of shame cause he was unusually tiny. His father gets slain in combat by a hated mortal enemy(Odin and his Asgardians). To add insult to in jury, the guy who wacked his poppa adopts/kidnaps him out of pity and raises him along side the biological son... Now this son is basically the golden boy of the realm who is destined to take the mantle of All-father. While growing up, he is constantly measured and compared to the Asgardian standard which of course the golden boy exhibits. He turns out resentful, hateful, and basically full of phukked up daddy issues. He never had a chance.
